Before we launch off into the 2012 round of DOINK! Final Fantasy Exchange, it's time to take a minute and recognize this year's Chocobo Racing teams! To be honest, we mods weren't exactly sure what the Chocobo Races were going to become... and we have to say, you guys blew all of our expectations out of the water. We've had Chocobo Down work rolling in since September, we had recs and prompts and a friending meme, and we finished up with a Kissing Battle that topped 700 comments — 10 pages! — which was not only the best Kiss Battle in Final Fantasy fandom history, but an awesome Final Boss to wrap up the 2011 Chocobo Races. (By the way, the Kissing Battle is still open for players — it's just closed for points. Feel free to keep playing as long as you'd like!)
So: Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's Chocobo Races. We're really pleased with what came out of it, and we hope you all had as much fun as we did!
We're happy to announce the final scores for Chocobo Racing 2011:
Team Tonberry made an amazing showing in December and at the Kissing Battle, and they got close, but it wasn't quite enough to overcome Team Cactuar's lead going into the Final Boss round. We'd like to take this opportunity to remind folks about the importance of signing up for a team if you want your work to count for points in Chocobo Races — we had some people sign up partway through participating, and who knows what the outcome could have been! Either way, everyone did amazing work, and we are just blown away by how great the races were.
So, congratulations to Team Cactuar! For your prize as winners, well... Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming DOINK! graphics featuring the winning team's mascot: Cactuars everywhere in 2012.
Thanks again to all of the participants! We hope that Chocobo Racing has kept your fannish muscles in shape, and that you're all ready for a brand new round of DOINK!. If you haven't quite had your fill, want a little variety, and are impatient to make and request more awesome FF stuff, why not head on over to the first round of Final Fantasy Crack Battle? This round features FFVII and FFVIII!
If you have any ideas that will help us build next year's Chocobo Races, please let the mods know — we're open to suggestions. Either way, keep your eyes on this space, because the launch of DOINK! 2012 is coming soon...!
