DOINK! Friending Meme!
We’ve always wanted to have a friending meme for Doink, but... in an exchange where gifts are surprises, and gifters and recipients are big secrets, it never seems like the right time. So we’d like to have one now! No one has to worry about ruining the big reveal, and we all get to have fun and make some friends!
If you’d like to participate, we’ve prepared some text you can copy and fill out to tell the community a little bit about yourself, where friends can find you, and which parts of Final Fantasy fandom make you sparkle like a happy Megalixir. Feel free to fill out as much or as little as you’d like - we encourage everybody to share their fandom likes and loves, so that you can connect with like-minded fans, but it isn’t necessary.
The way to play is quite simple:
Just two notes before we start:
Enjoy!

Feel free to fill out as much or as little as you’d like - we encourage everybody to share their fandom likes and loves, so that you can connect with like-minded fans, but it isn’t necessary.
The way to play is quite simple:
- Copy the text, fill it out, and leave a comment! We’ll have two posts, one for LJ and one for DW - if you’re looking for new friends in both places, feel free to fill both out.
- Scan the page and read about the Doink community! Does someone look interesting? Strike up a conversation! Make some friends! WRITE COMMENT FIC. Whatever you’d like!
- Add folks to your various friend networks as you desire!
- Repeat as needed.
- Everyone wins!
Just two notes before we start:
- This is not exclusive to Chocobo Down participants, or to Doink participants. It’s open to everyone! So please spread the word.
- We hope this doesn’t really need to be said, but please stay kind, positive, and respectful of everyone’s widely different kinds of fandom love.
Enjoy!

Ways I participate in fandom: writing, reading, horrible commentary, unintelligible flailing, driving the Fandom Hell Bus. Oh, and modding!
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Rydia - She's sassy, spunky, and can nuke the entire screen; what's not to love?
2. Quistis - she's enough like me that it's scary.
3. Laguna - because everything's better with Laguna, even if everything gets worse with Laguna around. XD
4. Terra - she's sad but hopeful, broken but fighting. I love it.
5. Irvine - because he's so sincere under that front; I love characters with layers.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Rydia/Edge/Kain - my official OT3, it's done, it just works in my brain please don't break it.
2. SQUALL/LAGUNA. DO I EVEN NEED A SENTENCE WHY OR CAN YOU INFER IT FROM THE CAPSLOCK.
3. Quistis/Rinoa - the way they complete each other is soft and fierce at the same time.
4. Locke/Celes - it is so goddamn broken and yet so good.
5. Seifer/Irvine - memories and forgiveness and the past and the future. Also, HAT PORN.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: META on magic, summons, skills -- anything that combines worldbuilding or characterbuilding with a story. COMPLICATED RELATIONSHIPS. Sex that's more than sex; smut with layers. Strength; weakness. Oh, and incest. Twincest, if you prefer.
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: SO WHERE'S YOUR SEAT ON THE FANDOM HELL BUS

FF canons I’ve experienced: FFVII, FFVIII, FFXII, FFXIII, Dissidia Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFVIII, FFXII, FFXIII
Ways I participate in fandom: writing, drawing, flailing, ranting (about how I am failing at writing/drawing)!
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Zell Dincht - Because he's a goody goody, closeted smart guy, and so damn sincere about shit. <33333333
2. Selphie Tilmitt - TRAINS AND BLOWING SHIT UP.
3. Lightning - She doesn't have time for this kind of bullshit.
4. Snow - SUCH A RIDICULOUS HERO.
5. Hope - unhinged shota mage. :3
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Seifer/Zell - because yes.
2. Irvine/Zell - my old married couple. <3333
3. Squall/Zell - besties turned lovers is like ONE OF THOSE THINGS I ADORE.
4. Balthier/Vaan - SKYPIRATES IN LOVE.
5. Snow/Hope - filthydirty size kink and dirty talk, hnnnn.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: WORLD BUILDING. I love the universes these games are set in and I love hearing more about them! Friends being ridiculous together. LOTS OF TEASING. Smut! Violence turning into smut!
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: OH MY GOSH, I DON'T KNOW. Is anyone working on anything for the Oh My God We Need Some Porn In Here Stat Porn Meme? If you don't see anything you like, tell me and I will totally prompt you. |D

Journals (LJ, DW, etc) / AO3 username: Traxits on DW and AO3, as well as an icon journal,
Other places I’m looking for awesome fandom friends: AIM! Gtalk! I'm Traxits on both. ^^ (And Twitter, if you like. Also Traxits there.)
FF canons I’ve experienced: FFVII,FFVII:AC, FFVII:OTWtaS:CoD, FFVII:LO, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFXI, FFXII, FFXIV, FF:CC, FF:CC:MLaK, FF:CC:MLaDL, FFT, FFTA, FFTA2, Dissidia.
FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFVII and FFVIII mostly. With a ridiculous love for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, My Life as King, and My Life as Darklord.
Ways I participate in fandom: Mostly writing. A lot of writing, actually. Not as much as I'd like, but really, who manages that? I also draw (sometimes), and read (mostly on recommendation only, but sometimes I go surfing for particular pairings or characters). And iconing! I am not sure why I forget that I icon, but I do.
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. (FF7) Reeve Tuesti. Quiet, polite, and seriously hidden badassery.
2. (FF7) Reno. LOUD (but still totally CLEVER) BADASSERY!
3. (FF8) Irvine Kinneas. I really love the layers to Irvine, I mean, just, he's sincere under that front of his and really, I just adore him.
4. (FF8) Zell Dincht. How can anyone not love Zell's earnest good-boy attitude?
5. (FF7) Elena. Overlooked so very much by fandom, and it's really a shame since there's a lot to her character.
(I always feel guilty on these because I list all these male characters and like, one girl. It's not that I don't love girl characters, because I do, I just... latch onto male characters more. They're easier for me to write.)
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Rufus/Reeve. Two men, one city, and a whole lot of fighting over who that city belongs to.
2. Reeve/Rude. This is really a guilty pleasure of mine (a REALLY guilty pleasure since I'm pretty sure I might be the only person who writes it), and sometimes, I add Reno into the mix just for giggles.
3. Irvine/Zell. I like the contrast in how they deal with things, and the way their characters just ... mesh.
4. Reno/Rude. Classic partners-in-love; really kind of a buddy-cop feel.
5. Rufus/Tseng/Elena. ... Yeah, just; LOOK AT THEM.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: Worldbuilding. I just. Nothing draws me into a story faster than some seriously excellent worldbuilding and good attention to detail. Also, I like competence. Characters being good at something, since so often, fandom likes to focus on what they're really not. Also, I'm really kind of huge on 'chosen' or 'made' families over blood ones, which works out given the fact that so few FF characters have blood family left. Oh, and porn. I love me some porn.
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: I. ... I'm really bad at these. Oh. OH, WAIT. I KNOW.
WHO ELSE NOTICED THAT REEVE TUESTI HAS A RIFLE IN DIRGE OF CERBERUS? (Seriously. Pic here. Also, a revolver, but that's not as impressive as the rifle.)
Anything else? I am apparently in the process of putting together a Final Fantasy VII's Turks-based community here on DW, so... if you're interested, let me know and I'll shoot you a line once I get it up and running?

FF canons I’ve experienced: 7-12, AC, Spirits Within.
FF Fandoms I’m active in: 8, 12, sometimes 10-2
Ways I participate in fandom: Mostly writing and drawing with some conspicuous consumption thrown in for fun. I also participate in nagging Nay for fics. >D
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Zell: Secret smarts; he's the exposition king.
2. Seifer: There are so many interesting ways to interpret his motivations.
3. Vaan: Not the main character, even if he is the pov character.
4. Noah (Gabranth): Bad guys with good intentions; see Seifer.
5. Sephie: She likes to blow shit up.
5 pairings I love (in no particular order) and one sentence why
1. Seifer/Zell; Seifer needs all the hugs, Zell would give him ALL the hugs.
2. Vaan/Noah; Figuring out where forgiveness comes from and what it means.
3. Vaan+Viera; Sky pirate BFFs GO!
4. Cloud/Reno; Hours and hours of bemusement.
5. Cloud/Rude; Strong silent type vs strong silent emo type.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: I love playing with the expected dynamic of a pairing or character (see: that fic I wrote where Zell has a lot of casual sex and Seifer is a romantic). I love interesting pairings and rare pairs, cracky or otherwise,. I prefer first time or get together stories because I think they can go so many different ways. I like porn in my plots and plot in my porns. I invented a rule about fights or misunderstands that states anything that can be solved with ten minutes of the characters actually talking needs more work. This is true of all my fandoms.
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: Where are all the hot makeouts, guys?
Anything else? I'm a total fannish butterfly but FF is like, my first love. It never dies. Right now you'll find SPN and TSN related things going on in my brain but I'm easily distracted by shiny stuff.

FF canons I’ve experienced: II, III, IV, about half of V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XII, XIII, The Spirits Within.
FF Fandoms I’m active in: I'm not sure what constitutes active but I've written fic for all of the above except II, X and XII and TSW. I LOVE THE ITTYBITTY FANDOMS MKAY.
Ways I participate in fandom: Writing and reading and leaving squee-laden reviews.
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Lightning, because she undermines the idea of what a party of brave young RPG heroes even is WITH HER FIST
2. Stiltzkin, because he always gets there first.
3. Dagger, because you get two beloved characters for the price of one!
4. Laguna, because he is so totally endearing and so much fun to write.
5. Balthier, because I think he's kinder than he ever meant to be.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Fang/Vanille - omg it is the part where the whole big canon romance is hyped up to be Snow/Sarah but for most of the game it's actually Fang/Vanille.
2. Squall/Seifer - for passion, and forgiveness, and lots of melodrama.
3. Auron/Braska/Jecht - you can tell it's perfect because it so doesn't work with only two of them
4. Ashe/Dagger - ALL THE PRINCESSES wait do i need any other reason
5. Arc/Alus because when I first played the part where Arc is sharing Alus's room and they sit up all night talking about their feelings I had no idea they were both like 12. I age it up in my head :(
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: Use of Final Fantasy worldbuilding as well as characters - I love seeing minor characters and details used in fic for this reason. Meta, especially if it examines game mechanics or conventions (I really want to see more of this for XIII, which provides lots of delicious deconstruction in canon that I've not seen come up much in fic). Femslash, because I am shallow like that.
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends:
THIS IS THE PLOT OF FINAL FANTASY XIII (AND I LOVE IT):
Anything else?
I am mostly too busy for fandom right this moment but my fandom-of-residence is Metal Gear and I am also way into Homestuck, which has lead me to attempt (ie. fail at) cosplay for the first time ever!

FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFX/X-2, FFXII, a little bit in FFIV and FFXIII
Ways I participate in fandom: mostly a fic writer and reader, but I also love me some meta!
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Paine: I was drawn to her right away, and I was intrigued by the mysteries of her backstory, and she gets all the good lines.
2. Auron: All the same reasons as Paine, really.
3. Penelo: The first FFXII character I fell in love with, because she never lets Vaan get away with anything.
4. Vivi: Cute and thoughtful and brave in the face of the unknown.
5. Fang: Strong, devoted, knows what her priorities are and never waivers from them, and kicks some serious ass in battle.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Paine/Nooj: My Final Fantasy OTP, because of their tragic backstory and all the ways they could move into the future, together and apart.
2. Balthier/Ashe: The princess and the pirate; there are a million reasons it should never work, but my heart roots for them to try regardless.
3. Al-Cid/Ashe/Balthier: One for politics and one for rebellion, and maybe love can find them all, too.
4. Baralai/Yuna: Imagine how they could rebuild Spira together.
5. Rikku/Wakka: Culture clash, searching for understanding and feeling out the new world; plus, it's *adorable*.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: Separation and reunion, and not just in a romantic context. Families of choice. Gameplay meta, especially making sense out of the nonsensical. FFX/X-2 stories that explore the history, sociology, and politics of Spira. Unusual pairings and cracky crossovers taken seriously and made to work.
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: Has anyone else ever noticed that Auron and Baralai are the only male characters in FFX and X-2, respectively, without pierced ears?
Anything else? My current fandom obsession is Dragon Age. Other long-term loves include Babylon 5, ASoIaF, and Star Trek: DS9. But FF is my first fandom home, and I will always belong here.

FF canons I’ve experienced: Mostly FFIV, FFVI & FFTactics. I know a bit of FFV, FFVII & FFVIII. I'm currently playing FFX for the first time, and while I did beat FFIII I don't remember shit about it.
FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFIV & FFVI. Okay it's almost exclusively FFVI, I'm not gonna lie >_>
Ways I participate in fandom: Drawing, sometimes writing
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Celes - she has survived many horrors and is strong because of it.
2. Locke - he's confident on the outside but sucks at sorting out his emotions (largely about love) inwardly; I relate to him a lot :|
3. Shadow - he has such a deep and painful past; he's mysterious but there's so much to his character underneath the layers.
4. Palom & Porom (they count as one character right) - they're adorable and I love their dynamic!
5. (I need to replay/finish playing FFV but) Faris - uhh the genderfuck, of course!
(Okay honestly I would just fill this up entirely with FFVI related stuff to be the most truthful but I felt like I should mix it up a bit. I have to include Kefka on this list though because he is my favorite headcase ever. The botched Magitek infusion leading to insanity, the Nihilism - there is so much psychological fuckery there!)
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Locke/Celes - it is such a struggle, so much angst; they have to overcome many personal demons before they can be together. My OTP (seriously, I mean that out of all fandoms ever).
2. Kefka/Celes - because it would be so FUCKED UP, and lots of potential for Magitek fuckery~
3. [Older] Palom/Porom - okay it started as crack BUT YOU KNOW WHAT, that's why we call them kinks and guilty pleasures >_>
4. ...
5. .....you know, I'm not terribly pairing-oriented in general (other than Locke/Celes, and... Kefka/Celes ^.^). If you can make it convincing, that's the best. I'm far more interested in a good story than a PWP.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: Minor characters! I've been really interested in exploring minor characters/NPCs lately. I like seeing how they affect the main cast, especially those in their pasts. I'm also a sucker for well-written angsty relationships and generally dark/depressing stories, haa. Worldbuilding is also great! Especially for the older FF games where graphics were limited; I love expanding the worlds in more detail. And most importantly - characterbuilding! Details about their pasts, motivations, thoughts, emotions - I love to see that.
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: ZEROMUS' DESIGN: WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SHIT
Anything else? Yo I also love to talk MUSIC and I listen to a lot of metal. If we have similar musical tastes, let's be friends too! :P

FF canons I’ve experienced: FFIV, FFVI, FFVII (AC, BC, OGC), FFVIII, FFX, and I'm in the middle of playing FFX-2. I've also seen FF:TSW, and own and really like Final Fantasy: Unlimited, which is super adorable.
FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFVII, FFIV, FFVIII, and sometimes FFX
Ways I participate in fandom: I write, I'm trying to rec more, I'm slowly getting back into RPing, and I cosplay.
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Tifa - So this is my first videogame crush, and yes, I like Aeris too. But I love how strong she is in some areas and weak in others and that she is a survivor.
2. Edea - My favorite character in FFVIII. Though her super powerfulness during her possession is badass, I really like exploring who Edea really is.
3. Yuna - She is hands down my favorite FF hero, and yes, she is the hero. Her progression is wonderful and I relate to her a lot, not gonna lie.
4. Edward - So, I adore Edward! He's the perfect damsel-but-not-really.
5. Veld - Five people have heard of him, but he's the old Turk leader from FFVII: Before Crisis and I just find the contrast with his fatherliness and badassness really interesting. Chances are if you've read a story about him, I've written it, or my ladyfriend has.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Tifa/Anyone - No really, I pretty much love any pairing she's in if it's written well enough.
2. Celes/Terra - Cause I like strong ladies making out.
3. Cid/Edea - The most complicated marriage ever.
4. Paine/Rikku/Yuna - See #2.
5. Vincent/Veld - Boys being stupid, but endearingly.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: If it isn't obvious, I love ladies. And yes, I write slash too, and sometimes I'll suddenly have a lot of that, but I'm mostly in the FF fandom because of the ladies. I love their flaws as much as their strengths. I love them with boys and other ladies. It's all good. I'm also really into minor characters and will sometimes get obsessed with one for a while.
I'm also really fond of small details added to a character's history. Like, I don't know, a food allergy. RANDOM STUFF LIKE THAT. I love it when an author or artist really takes a character and shows some interpretation.
Also, I will pretty much give every kink someone has a chance, provided it's not just PWP... mostly because I get bored.
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends:
Aeris and Terra... why do they have some of the creepiest fanboys?
Anything else? I'm a really busy person, which is why I don't really IM anymore, or comment a lot. It's not because I'm mean or a snob. I'm also really into sewing, design, engineering and tech (so I help design educational videogames as my job and have an aerospace engineering degree)! So if you like any of those things, I ramble about them.

FF canons I’ve experienced: FFV, most of VI, FFVII thru XIII except XI, DoC, AC, Spirits Within
FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFX/X2, FFXII, FFV; browse/enjoy FFVIII and VII fic
Ways I participate in fandom: Writing, reading, pr0n, icons, fanarts (rarely), fanvids (even more rarely), meta and geeking, ogling cosplayers, making giant snow Aurons and chocobos in my parents' yard at Christmas.
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Auron. Tragic!epic!heroic!stoic!cranky badass with zingers.
2. Lulu. See above, except not quite as dead.
3. Faris. OMG Faris. Swashbuckling cross-dressing pirate who kicks butt.
4. Balthier. Ditto, only more witty and less cross-dressing.
5. Fang. Sarcastic badass with lovely accent and...*pavlovian response*
6... DANGIT I'M OUT OF SLOTS!
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Auron/Lulu. Experienced guardians, kindred spirits who know what it means to fail, trying to chaperone the kids so they don't die.
2. Balthier/Fran. Complementary partners, each fascinating self-sufficient individuals in their own right, disreputable yet dashing sky pirates.
3. Elma/Lucil. I have a whole head canon with them, the outgoing "live it up" junior officer and her no-nonsense captain.
4. Squall/Rinoa. I don't write them, but I loved them with all their dysfunctional teenager miscommunications, and they'll stand as a placeholder for the fact that I enjoy nearly every canon pairing.
5. Faris/Lenna.That subtext was SCREAMING at me for the first half of the game, until they figured out Certain Things.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks:
- Protective guardian. That maternal / big sister / loyal guardian trope in all its forms makes me happy.
- Mentoring, a related trope.
- Magic and summons meta.
- Mythic themes and symbolism with Jungian archetypes FTW.
- Tragedy. But not pointless tragedy. "Saved the world, but not for me" tragedy.
- People who really are heroes, or who really are kind, deep down. (I don't do so well with "everyone is basically a jerk" dystopias.)
- Tortured characters with dark secrets. Yes, I'm shallow.
- Saving the princess. Did I mention I was shallow? (Yes, I want to be Utena AND Anthy.)
- Witty one-liners, zingers, eloquence, and interesting voices. Balthier, keep talking.
- Strong women with well-defined characters. Also, sexy women. Yuri gladly accepted.
- Secondary characters and worldbuilding. NPCs are people, too!
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends:Fang, Faris, and Fran walk into a bar. Describe ensuing mayhem.
Anything else?
If you're going to put Auron in a Disney universe, Squeenix, the least you can do is leave the man his alcohol. Also, how do I trigger the "Auron beheads Daffy Duck" cutscene?

Other places I’m looking for awesome fandom friends: Haaa, I can barely keep up with my RL social media accounts.
FF canons I’ve experienced: FFI, FFIII, FFIV, FFV, FFVI, FFVII, FFVII:AC, FFVII: DoC, FFVIII, (half of) FFIX, FFX, (currently working through) FFX-2, FFXII, FFT, FFTA, MQ, (a bit of) Dissidia
FF Fandoms I’m active in: I flit in and out all over the place, but I reliably come back to I, IV, and VI.
Ways I participate in fandom: Writing and reading, mostly. Lately I've been reaction-blogging my way through FF games that I missed playing when they were new (currently, X-2, which I really need to finish).
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Rydia: Brave and incredibly badass lady raised by monsters--when I was ten, I wanted to be her when I grew up, and I still kinda do.
2. Shadow: His backstory is left vague in exactly the ways I find interesting, and there is so much that can be done with his relationship with Relm.
3. Terra: She becomes so strong, and I love that she gets a character arc about self-acceptance and emotional awakening that doesn't revolve around a love interest (this also makes it easier to ship her with everyone >.>).
4. Fran: In addition to being a total BAMF, she has a great voice, a wry sense of humor, and a backstory that resonates with me.
5. Selphie: This is probably the closest I will ever come to seeing my teenage self immortalized in a video game.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Terra/Celes: So much in common, so much potential for creepy/angsty pre-game moments (also, sometimes Locke can come, too).
2. Barbariccia/Kain: They have maybe four lines together, but it only took four lines to convince me that something is going on here.
3. Aeris/Tifa: Their friendship delights me and I spent most of the first disc of the game rooting for them to ditch Cloud and run off together.
4. Ashe/Balthier: This is 100% canon to me.
5. Astos/Garland: This is my crack pairing that runs on headcanon and "HEY LOOK I MADE YOU BACKSTORY."
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks:Worldbuilding and delicious, delicious meta, particularly of game mechanics. Minor characters fleshed out in interesting ways. Xenokink and magickink. Post-game fic dealing with the aftermath of saving the world. Redemption stories in which a character has screwed up badly and really works for atonement. Rarepairs (particularly if it's getting-together story). Party-bonding. Femslash (I really need to get around to XIII, as I understand there is bait waiting for me).
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: As far as I can tell, there does not exist any fanwork exploring the doomed, tragic potential of Lugae/Rubicante. :( How can we fix this, meme?

FF canons I’ve experienced: FF, FFIV, FFV, FFVI, FFVII, FFVII:AC, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFXIII, FF:TSW (...and I own FFXII but still need to play it, sob)
FF Fandoms I’m active in: ...define active. Most recently, though, FFIV, FFVI, FFVIII, FFIX and FFXIII. Occasionally FFVII and FFX, too.
Ways I participate in fandom: Writing and reading fic, putting together rec lists when I get the energy, and writing meta.
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Setzer - I started liking him because of the devil-may-care attitude and the crazy lifestyle; I started loving him when I found out about the Falcon and realized how complex he was.
2. Rinoa - She starts out as a spoiled brat, but as she realizes what she's gotten into, she grows up and changes and I love seeing that. (I realize I'm probably the only person who'll say this here, but I'm saying it anyway. :D)
3. Edward - I think I really love him because he isn't a Big Damn Hero like Cecil - he's just a guy who got caught up in something way bigger than himself, and did his best to help. <3
4. Sazh - His outlook on life near the end is so much like mine it's scary, and I like his level-headedness.
5. Freya - She's tough, powerful, and honorable without being blinded by honor; I love coming up with outcomes where she's at peace with herself again.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
(This is probably the part that will make most people goggle, fair warning!)
1. Locke/Celes/Setzer - I firmly believe that Setzer should totally nab Locke and Celes and sweep them away on his airship, so that they can all live together and trip over each other's pasts and have awesome adventures together.
2. Barret/Tifa - So different in a lot of ways, so alike in all the ways that matter.
3. Quistis/Fujin - Tough, secretly longing girls in love, what wouldn't be to like?
4. Barbariccia/Kain - There are so many directions this couple can go, and all of them are great.
5. Zidane/Freya - Cracky, yes, but I still love it - two friends and battle comrades adventuring together and snarking at each other and dealing with their own issues together and occasionally having fun together? Yes, please!
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: I like meta about magic and odd ways of working game mechanics into, um, actual mechanics. I love both slice-of-life stuff and grand adventures, and I like things that essentially throw disparate characters into an unusual situation just to see what happens. I like AUs that change one small (or not-so-small) detail about the game's plot and then plays with what changes from there. In fanart I have a real weakness for fancy costuming or alternative interpretations of the tiny ingame sprites that don't necessarily follow the reference art perfectly. And as far as kink goes, I love the fact that so many of the FF games have so much opportunity for xenokink. And magic can do a lot of fun things if used properly, too. >:)
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends:
Hmm... okay: What do FF characters eat anyway? We never see chickens or cows! Do they actually eat monsters that they kill? And the eternal questions: What about chocobos?? D:
Anything else? I often have long periods of inactivity followed by brief periods of flailing and/or fic! I'm hoping to have more fannish meta posts in December on my fanstuff journal, maybe even daily-ish, but we'll see. ^^ (Also Mass Effect has sort of eaten my brain lately, as you'll probably notice on my fic journal in short order...)

stalks5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Terra - Non-human lead. Great development throughout the game.
2. Lulu - Goth mage. Enough said.
3. Auron - I'VE NEVER SEEN A MORE ATTRACTIVE OLD MAN.
4. Balthier - How could you not love him?
5. Reno - Er... another crush.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Locke/Terra
2. Auron/Lulu
3. Balthier/Ashe
4. Baralai/Yuna
5. Celes/Terra - this yuri pairing is growing on me...
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: p0rn LOL. Comedies, thriller AU.

FF canons I’ve experienced: FFI, FFIII DS, FFIV (including the shitty SNES version from ye olden dayes, which is when I first played it), FFV, FFVI, FFIV: TAC, FFVII, FFVII:AC, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFT, FFTA, Vagrant Story (which I'm told sorta counts?) FF:SW
FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFIV and FFVI for the most part.
Ways I participate in fandom: Writing, reading, flailing around. I draw a little.
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Edward -- He has absolutely none of the skills required for a Standard Video Game Party Member and is also surprisingly non-angsty for someone whose life pretty much sucks all the balls
2. Rydia -- monsters + girls = best
3. Setzer -- because apparently swooping into the middle of an opera and kidnapping the soprano is a typical day for him
4. Locke -- because I imprinted on Robin Hood at an early age and thus I love 100% of all gentleman thief characters
5. Luca -- she is a dwarf princess with pink stompy boots, come ON
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
I AM HAVING TROUBLE NARROWING THIS DOWN
1. Edward/Rydia -- this is the OTP of my soul.
2. Setzer/Edgar -- "Have we mechanically optimized sex yet?"
3. Scarmiglione/Cagnazzo -- I don't have any explanation for this one, I'm sorry. I ship all of the fiends with each other and with everything, generally speaking
4. Edward/Cecil -- it's like a knight and a damsel, only infinitely more hilarious
5. Rydia/Rosa -- come on, look at them
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: Game mechanics meta, worldbuilding, creepy stuff, monsters, hijinks, h/c, noncombat characters doing noncombat-y things, kinky porn (especially when it's really really IC and makes so much sense). Tentacles. Xeno. Bards and literature and fake bibliography and other in-setting literary things. Stuff that really delves into some fucked up things that aren't explored in canon as deeply (Golbez I'm looking at youuuu). Insane fanon.
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends:
Why don't the doctors just pick up the fucking harp and bring it to Edward rather than standing back and letting him crawl painfully across the floor on his broken legs? I mean seriously.
Anything else?
I sometimes go for long periods without posting. I'm sorry. Also, I'm sort of hugely into WoW right now, which I guess is my other big fandom.

Journals (LJ, DW, etc) / AO3 username: This journal, my writing journal,
Other places I’m looking for awesome fandom friends: I have a Tumblr that I never seem to use, so... nothing right now.
FF canons I’ve experienced: The first FF game, on the NES, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, then IV (as II), VI, VII through X, and parts of XII, V, and Tactics. And the movie, and some of the Final Fantasy Legend games on the Gameboy, though I can't remember what series they really belonged to.
FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFVI, anymore. I've written for VII but basically dropped it around the time Advent Children came out. I'll probably be writing for IV once I finish it on the DS.
Ways I participate in fandom: Writing, reading, the occasional recs/linkdump from Pixiv, reaction posts sometimes as I'm playing or replaying games. I went inactive for several years, and only started writing again this year. I've been meaning to start posting scans from my doujinshi collection.
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Terra Branford, because she starts out so completely lost and confused (and I was right there with her, not even sure who all the people chasing her even were) and she comes so far and learns so much.
2. Edgar Figaro, because even though I can't write his middle name without giggling, I love his well-hidden sense of responsibility for pretty much everyone he knows.
3. Reeve Tuestie, because he was the one character in FF7 in a moral position I could understand - he's not a trained killer, he's not a terrorist, he's just a guy trying to do the right thing in a situation where it's nearly impossible.
4. Celes Chere, because she's such a badass, and yet you can see how much of it she had to adopt to handle the role she'd been groomed for; I love her combination of self-destructiveness and courage.
5. Balthier, for extremely shallow reasons. I haven't played the whole game and don't know much about him, but I fangirl the hell out of him.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Locke/Terra - My all-time OTP, I see Terra as really needing... not protection, because she's doing fine on her own, but someone who understands her background and is on her side, and Locke is the one who promised to be there for her and has known her the longest.
2. Setzer/Celes - He asks her to chase a dream with him, and she says she will.
3. Rude/Tifa - Because I think she's smart enough to see the benefits to someone who's solid and dependable, and he's admired her from a distance for a long time; if it doesn't get hung up at the very beginning with him seeing her as unapproachable, or her fixating on his Shinra past, I see them meshing really well.
4. Zidane/Garnet - I loved the way the game showed both of them growing up into people who could actually connect with each other.
5. Edward/Rydia - I'm starting to see it, courtesy of the DS remake; I especially liked her huffy thought that Edge is nothing like Edward.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: Worldbuilding! So much worldbuilding! I love realistic takes on game mechanics, travel time, all of that. I'm a sucker for fanart that plays with the character designs somewhat while keeping them recognizable, and even (gasp!) tries out different clothes for the characters.
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: Everyone in these games always speaks the same language, uses the same currency, and 99% of them are apparently of the same race (barring occasional cultural differences in names, as in FFVI...) Anyone else want to think we're just seeing one small portion of the world and there are whole continents out there that just aren't on the map?
Anything else? I'm about 5,000 to 10,000 words away from my master's degree in library science, so I haven't been posting all that much lately, but when I have time I'm more active.

5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Yuffie: she does what she wants, but not for herself
2. Lightning: she cares, even if she doesn't know how to show it
3. Faris: D'gsrr!
4. Cyan: he's a champion letter-writer
5. Ramza: he doesn't need or want recognition
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Fran/Balthier: If I had an OTP, this might be it, because they're just fantastic
2. Locke/Celes: there is no easy road for them, but they try anyway
3. Yuffie/Vincent: ... ... I don't think I can explain this ship in one sentence... They're similar...?
4. Basch/Vossler: this hits so many buttons for me - loss, betrayal, duty... Yesss
5. Lightning/Anyone: Lightning affects everyone she comes into contact with, why not ship them? ;)
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: Loyalty, betrayal, partnership, families of choice, trust, trust, magic as meta, magic as kink, really complex relationships, and failed relationships

5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Yuna, because she is a summoner and she's strong, but still manages to be very polite about it.
2. Auron, because outwardly he's so tough, and cool, but internally he's seething with self-doubts.
3. Aeris, because she is very sweet and down to earth and funny for someone who has so much power and I love how she gets Cloud into drag.
4. Balthier, because, yes, he does amuse me, thank you very much, with his exaggerated suaveness.
5. Faris, because she's a woman disguised as a man and because she is a pirate and because she saves her sister.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Balthier/Fran, but like it best when they're either in the stages of not admitting they have a thing for each other, or when they're already a long-standing couple who basically function as one person at this point.
2. Auron/Lulu, because both of them are intelligent and no-nonsense and can bond over teasing Tidus (which is way too easy).
3. Andddd I draw a blank. I don't much care for specific pairings to be perfectly honest.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks:
I like character and plot driven stories, because I think that the games can be short on both.
I like stories that describe and build on the bonds between all the characters rather than just focusing on the romance between two characters.
I really enjoy when people flesh out a blank space in the game, a part that we don't get to see, or that is mostly taken up by random encounters for the game player. I love slice-of-life type stuff, so this is no surprise.
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: Why are there so few adult adventurers in the games, and why are over thirties considered 'old'? (I fall into this category now!)

Ways I participate in fandom: reading, doodling, flailing, lurking, with the disclaimer that I am too chickenshit to actually share but hey, a girl's gotta start somewhere
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Selphie: She's spunky and she likes trains and explosions and has a badass limit break and... I see a lot of myself in her, okay?
2. Celes: I have a huge lady boner for strong female characters, bonus points if they're extra complex, and Celes is definitely one of them!
3. Steiner: His first name makes me giggle (c'mon, Aldelbert!), he's bumbling and hilarious as a character, and I like how over the course of the game he becomes less of a stick in the mud.
4. Yuffie: I blame
5. Laguna: DO I REALLY HAVE TO EXPLAIN WHY, HE'S SUCH A DOOFUS AND I LOVE HIM
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Selphie/Irvine: THEY'RE MY OTP, OKAY?
2. Garnet/Zidane: It's a love story I have no problem getting behind.
3. Beatrix/Steiner: It's cute and there's potential for hilarity
4. Yuffie/Vincent: I think they can compliment each other well, I also shamelessly blame
5. Dude, my brain hurts. I like a lot of pairings. There.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: Magic meta, world building, fleshing out of characters, real world elements (like fiddling with politics?), PORN lol wat

FF canons I’ve experienced: FFVII + AC, LO, CC, FFT, FFIV, FFV, FFVI, FFVIII, FFIX, FFXII
FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFVII - I'm kind of mono-fannish, but I read fic in XII and Tactics.
Ways I participate in fandom: heinous posts of glee, reading fic, appreciating fanart, trying to contribute more to Fanlore articles, trying/failing to write my own fic.
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Tifa - She has overcome so much, and will do anything to protect those she loves, even if it means lying to them.
2. Balthier - The greatest FF hero ever created, sorry, but totes true.
3. Celes - It was so great to have a badass lady also in touch with her femininity. I guess that's true of lots of FF ladies, though.
4. Ashe - Moving past a place of grief and a broken kingdom, she's able to help run a rebellion be a BAMF. 'Nough said.
5. Agrias - A lady knight who protects Alma like no one else - AWESOME.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Balthier/Fran
2. Locke/Celes
3. I'm not really into specific ships, so long as they're written in a believable way....
4.
5.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: Loyalty, exploration of throw-away lines from canon, elaborate world-building, most especially fics that make me reconsider characters from canon. Like, fandom has sold me on Aeris.
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: HAS ANYONE ELSE READ THAT BARRET/RED XIII PORN FIC AT AO3?! I.....I LIKED IT.
Anything else?
I have some fannish angst because I don't feel like I contribute a lot.
At the moment, my locked posts talk about various health issues, most especially chronic pain that I've had for the last 15ish months (IT SUCKS).

FF canons I’ve experienced: FFIII, FFIV, FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFXII, Dissidia, FFT, Vagrant Story
FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFXII (Ivalice in general), occasionally Dissidia
Ways I participate in fandom: reading, writing, lots and lots of flailing on stories that don't want to be written in a short straight-forward manner, meta'ing, art recs, occasionally making icons and image manias
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. (FFXII) Noah aka Gabranth - A bucket of tragedy, trying to do right yet flailing spectacularly, all while caring deeply about the people closest to him yet, confusing hurt with hate (all that hate for Basch stems from fraternal love).
2. (FFXII) Fran - A strong female with great lines, fantastic snarky voice&body acting, great backstory with so much potential for fandom interpretation and additions.
3. (FFT) Ramza - He just plain does what he must (and I swear he is a far future descendant of Basch).
4. (FFX) Auron - Epic ronin badass, with epic katana, and a punch-in-the-gut backstory that becomes increasingly more epic as his story unfolds.
5. (FFIX) Vivi - For me, his quest for identity and meaning was the highlight of FFIX.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Balthier/Ashe(/Al-Cid) - Because Balthier and Ashe have already decided that they cannot be together despite wanting each other, and because of Balthier's Far Too Obvious eye-rolling groans around Al-Cid/Ashe (and Fran's smirking while watching it unfold).
2. Basch/Vossler - Crossing class boundaries, clashing interpretations of loyalty, duty, and noble action, and tasty hardbodied knightly omnomnomnomnom.
3. Delita/Ovelia - class issues, political intrigue, love, betrayal, gut-stabbery.
4. Auron/Lulu - because they are two kindred spirits who could have an endless conversation about death without ever saying a word (and because Lulu/Wakka is the biggest piece of crack that Squeenix has ever sold us).
5. Penelo/postgame!Noah - because if a seriously injured & disabled Noah survived, orphan-mothering Penelo would offer to be his carer for All The Wrong Reasons the moment Larsa bats his big, long eyelashes at her and Hero of the People Basch puts his hand on her shoulder and says, "I know you will take good care of my brother," and once Penelo, Vaan, and Noah are living under the same roof, not only does the situation demand the utmost of forgiveness, they have to deal with Rabanastrians thinking that Noah is kingslayer Basch (or kingslayer Noah), ANNNNNNDDDD EVENTUALLY, after the 3rd or 4th time Penelo breaks up with Vaan during yet another screaming, yelling fight, a very upset, slightly drunk Penelo will no doubt seek comfort and sympathy from Basch's mirror image lookalike, which, of course, quickly ends up with needy!insecure!Noah not saying "No" as a half-naked Penelo crawls in between his sheets (for All The Wrong Reasons) ... and two weeks later Vaan wants to stick a fork in his eye right after Penelo and Noah "secretly" hold hands under the dining room table after learning that Larsa and Basch think that Penelo/Noah is Very Good News.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks:
- Crossing social class boundaries and cultural boundaries.
- Explorations of how political issues infest people's lives and shape their relationships (Ivalice, anyone?)
- Supernatural themes, gods as bastards, death, ghosts, memories, reflections
- Porn/sex that deeply explores characters' inner selves
- Stories with meta, layers, and subtext under subtext
- Complex, anti-cookie-cutter relationships
- OT3s, OT3s with twincest
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: What's your theory of why Vossler's armor has some dog collar action in it?
Anything else? Due to life weird shit a little over a year ago, I hastily put most of my fic (pr0n!) under friends lock. I plan on using much of my upcoming winter break to put my fic back into public spaces, so right now only my non-porn fic is up in ff_fortnightly and ff.net.

FF canons I’ve experienced: The list I haven't experienced is shorter: FFXII Revenant Wings, the Crystal Chronicles games, FFIV: The After Years
FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFVI, FFIV, FFXII/Tactics are my big ones. I am intermittently lurking and/or posting in all of them, though.
Ways I participate in fandom: Reading, writing, lurking. I have plans to start reccing more as soon as NaNoWriMo is over.
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Celes - FF6 was the first FF game I played to completion, and Celes has always been fascinating to me in that she does not really get this emotions thing and she's just an amazing badass that I love.
2. Kain - I am fascinated by his obsession with honor and his weirdly flexible definitions of same, and really how "obsession" is his defining characteristic (though he wishes it was "honor.")
3. Balthier - Really, there's nothing not to love about fabulous sky pirates, but I like the cracks in his facade and how he's not actually as awesome as he pretends--the little weaknesses that make him more interesting.
4. Garnet - I love her quiet strength, her determination, and how she finds clever ways to do the right thing when that's more important than playing by the rules.
5. Seifer - he is a delightfully broken toy and is wonderful to poke with sharp sticks because he aspires to be more, but in a way that dooms him to failure, and for some reason that really does it for me.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Locke/Celes - they are terrible at talking to each other and they are both delightfully broken, but if they could ever get down to really communicating I think they'd be amazing together.
2. Ashe/Balthier - Snark forever, which is my critical weakness, and also I love them because it's so hard for them to work, as he cannot give up his love of the sky and she will not give up her duty.
3. Fang/Vanille - First of all, canon lesbian ship fuck yeah, and second of all I love how badass Fang is and how they act as foil and mirror for each other; Vanille's cheery attitude vs Fang's practicality is adorable forever.
4. Kain/Barbariccia - Wind is her element, and wind makes his skills work, and I love her inhumanity and when he doesn't give a damn because he's trying so hard to hold on to his honor and failing.
5. Lulu/Auron - They've both been here before and they know what's going to happen, and they are doing it anyway because they have to; plus bonus tragic ending makes me happy.
Conclusion: I love bittersweet and tragic pairings that never work.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks:
I love magickink. I am fascinated by knights and the choices they make in pursuit of their loyalties. I love snark, and rogues, and pirates; I love badass ladies who take no shit from anyone. I love meta forever; playing around with game mechanics makes me so happy. I also like exploring backstory and sidestories a lot.
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends:
So, sometimes the game changes which Esper/summon/whatever is associated with a different thing. Are they all avatars of the same element, i.e. different faces? Do they transform between games? What's up with that?
Anything else?
Other fandoms I do include: Mass Effect and Dragon Age (mostly lurking but learning to write), Shin Megami Tensei (especially Persona but I lurk in other fandoms), the Magna Carta games, and an assortment of tiny JRPG fandoms. \o/

Name / Pseud: Mina Lightstar / "M"
Journals (LJ, DW, etc) / AO3 username:
Other places I’m looking for awesome fandom friends: I am v. boring and currently only active on DW.
FF canons I’ve experienced: ALL THE THINGS, except XIII-2, DoC, the phone games, and My Life as a King/Dark Lord
FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFVI always and forever; I dabble in the others.
Ways I participate in fandom: I write fic and generally flail about.
5 characters I love and one sentence why
1. Locke Cole, because he is so very broken and gets the coolest weapons.
2. Rydia, because she tells it like it is and is a harbinger of death.
3. Celes, because she can kick your ass and then serenade you with an aria afterward.
4. Ashe, because I am in love with her entire storyline and persona.
5. Cloud Strife, because he was originally a deconstruction of FF heroes and is beautifully fucked up.
5 pairings I love and one sentence why
1. Locke/Celes, because they are cracked along the edges and need each other.
2. Zack/Aerith, because there is just something about their story that really gets to me.
3. Edgar/Locke, because they are prince/pauper BFFs and I think they would have lots of casual fun together.
4. Zidane/Locke, because they are both
thievestreasure hunters and would get into all kinds of competitions and it would be AWESOME.5. Cloud/Firion, for which I blame Dissidia.
I'm actually not that pairing-driven, though; I love gen/het/gay and a good fic is more important than the pairing, for me.
Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: Magickink is a big one, and I am fond of light bondage. I also enjoy vaguely dubious consent. Other than that, whatever makes a good story!
One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: You've all seen The Sevening, right?
Anything else?
I am basically a giant dork! I'm in all kinds of fandoms, though I am quiet on the blogging front these days.
