DOINK! Friending Meme!

We’ve always wanted to have a friending meme for Doink, but... in an exchange where gifts are surprises, and gifters and recipients are big secrets, it never seems like the right time. So we’d like to have one now! No one has to worry about ruining the big reveal, and we all get to have fun and make some friends!

If you’d like to participate, we’ve prepared some text you can copy and fill out to tell the community a little bit about yourself, where friends can find you, and which parts of Final Fantasy fandom make you sparkle like a happy Megalixir. Feel free to fill out as much or as little as you’d like - we encourage everybody to share their fandom likes and loves, so that you can connect with like-minded fans, but it isn’t necessary.

The way to play is quite simple:

1. Copy the text, fill it out, and leave a comment! We’ll have two posts, one for LJ and one for DW - if you’re looking for new friends in both places, feel free to fill both out.
2. Scan the page and read about the Doink community! Does someone look interesting? Strike up a conversation! Make some friends! WRITE COMMENT FIC. Whatever you’d like!
3. Add folks to your various friend networks as you desire!
4. Repeat as needed.
5. Everyone wins!

Just two notes before we start:

• This is not exclusive to Chocobo Down participants, or to Doink participants. It’s open to everyone! So please spread the word.


• We hope this doesn’t really need to be said, but please stay kind, positive, and respectful of everyone’s widely different kinds of fandom love.

FF canons I’ve experienced: FFI, FFIII DS, FFIV (including the shitty SNES version from ye olden dayes, which is when I first played it), FFV, FFVI, FFIV: TAC, FFVII, FFVII:AC, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFT, FFTA, Vagrant Story (which I'm told sorta counts?) FF:SW
FF Fandoms I’m active in: FFIV and FFVI for the most part.

1. Edward -- He has absolutely none of the skills required for a Standard Video Game Party Member and is also surprisingly non-angsty for someone whose life pretty much sucks all the balls
2. Rydia -- monsters + girls = best
3. Setzer -- because apparently swooping into the middle of an opera and kidnapping the soprano is a typical day for him
4. Locke -- because I imprinted on Robin Hood at an early age and thus I love 100% of all gentleman thief characters
5. Luca -- she is a dwarf princess with pink stompy boots, come ON

I AM HAVING TROUBLE NARROWING THIS DOWN
1. Edward/Rydia -- this is the OTP of my soul.
2. Setzer/Edgar -- "Have we mechanically optimized sex yet?"
3. Scarmiglione/Cagnazzo -- I don't have any explanation for this one, I'm sorry. I ship all of the fiends with each other and with everything, generally speaking
4. Edward/Cecil -- it's like a knight and a damsel, only infinitely more hilarious
5. Rydia/Rosa -- come on, look at them

Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: Game mechanics meta, worldbuilding, creepy stuff, monsters, hijinks, h/c, noncombat characters doing noncombat-y things, kinky porn (especially when it's really really IC and makes so much sense). Tentacles. Xeno. Bards and literature and fake bibliography and other in-setting literary things. Stuff that really delves into some fucked up things that aren't explored in canon as deeply (Golbez I'm looking at youuuu). Insane fanon.

One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends:
Why don't the doctors just pick up the fucking harp and bring it to Edward rather than standing back and letting him crawl painfully across the floor on his broken legs? I mean seriously.

Anything else?
I sometimes go for long periods without posting. I'm sorry. Also, I'm sort of hugely into WoW right now, which I guess is my other big fandom.

Oh I forgot to add that I am like super into Earthbound with a zeal approaching religiosity. I replay the game once a year and I can talk your ear off about its amazing genius if you let me.

Other less-big fandoms of mine: Johannes Cabal series, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Exalted. You will probably hear about all of these.

Also I talk about fighting games on my Twitter on occasion, so be prepared for posts that are probably totally impenetrable to people who don't play fighting games.
