Final Fantasy Kiss Battle 2016!!

Yes, it's happening! Right here and right now! :D

We are still considering our availability and options for running a full exchange sometime this year, and we'll keep you posted on any future developments. In the meantime, we wanted to bring back the Kiss Battle: it's a tradition, and really fun!

Since we aren't doing the Chocobo Races this year, there are no teams and no points. However, we will give a shout-out to the top five contributors, with special recognition to the person who creates kisses for the most canons. :)

Final Fantasy Kiss Battle 2016

RULES
  • All prompts will be organized by fandom, using Master Links. When leaving prompts, please put it under the right canon! If in a compilation canon, please include the important details!

  • To leave a prompt: leave one prompt per comment, with FANDOM: CHARACTERS/RELATIONSHIP in the subject line and your prompt in the body.

  • To leave a fill: reply to the comment in question. Please use the subject line of your comment to label your work: TITLE (if relevant), FANDOM, CHARACTERS/RELATIONSHIP, RATING (ANY KINKS, WARNINGS, FLAGS).

  • There should be kissing! All kinds of kisses are welcome: gen, shippy, smutty, chaste, familial, friendly, angry, happy! We’re pretty open to anything you want to call kissing. We are fans of all of it.

  • Fanart, fanfiction, drabbles, doodles, live action movies -- whatever you want to supply, we’d like to have it.

  • Be kind to others regarding character or ship choices and prompts. This should be fun for everyone!

  • Prompt early, prompt often, and leave as many as you want.

  • Prompts can be filled multiple times!

  • To leave a blitzkrieg kiss: If you have something but no one has prompted it yet, blitzkiss away! Just reply to the comment for your fandom, and make sure you use the subject line to label your work.

  • Be sure to check back often -- new kissing action could be showing up everywhere!

  • Spread the word! Tell your friends!

FINAL FANTASY KISS BATTLE 2016

We will be running the Kiss Battle on Dreamwidth only. There are two main reasons for this: 1) Dreamwidth’s comment limit is huge, allowing for longer kissing masterpieces; and 2) Dreamwidth still supports subject lines for comments, which are vital to a meme like the Kiss Battle. However, the Battle is open to everyone. Feel free to participate with your Dreamwidth (account creation is invite-free right now~!), your Livejournal or other OpenID account (see here if you want to set up an OpenID), or anonymously.

Have fun! Get smoochin'!

One morning, in the winter of the year after the last of Kefka's reign, Terra wakes to frost on the windows and an empty spot in bed beside her, and steps out the door to see that a blanket of snow had fallen during the night. Celes is standing outside wearing only a thin nightshirt, looking up at the still-falling snow and holding a handful of it loosely in one palm like she doesn't know what to do with it.

"It's cold," Celes says. She sounds surprised, as if she's never considered that snow might be freezing to the touch, or winter winds might bite.

"Is that so strange to you?" Terra asks.

"It is, a little," Celes says, with a slight self-deprecating laugh, and looks Terra up and down with military acuity. "Winter still doesn't touch you at all, does it?"

She's right. The air is nippy, but though Terra wears a woolen coat for comfort, if she wanted to she could strip it off entirely, and walk bare-armed through the snow without harm. But Celes is not so untouchable any longer, and if there's envy in her eyes when she looks at Terra standing barefoot on the doorstep in midwinter, well, she's lost something. Even if it was only borrowed, or stolen, that doesn't mean the loss isn't real.

"Here," Terra says, and crosses the yard to where Celes is standing, undoing buttons as she walks. She has no fire left to spare, but she can drape her coat around Celes's shoulders, fold her up in the only heat she still has to offer.

"You're still so warm," Celes says, and steps into the circle of Terra's arms. The coat is big enough to wrap around them both, Terra flushed with heat and Celes shivering, thin and sharp and pressed close against her. She touches Terra's face with freezing fingers, cups her cheek and brushes a thumb over her mouth, and it's not envy at all this time, but wonder.

"Come inside," Terra says, and Celes murmurs her assent, but she doesn't move except to lean in and open her mouth to Terra's own. She tastes like frost and the remnants of dead magic, and her mouth is soft but she kisses fiercely, not quite desperate but hungry for something Terra can't give her and doesn't have herself any longer. But there's no changing that, so she tangles her hands in Celes's hair and doesn't let her go until the moment passes and they're both nothing more than two fools standing outside in midwinter with one coat to split between them.

"You're still you," Terra says. "You haven't lost what matters." Celes doesn't answer that, even to deny it, but she lets Terra lead her back indoors and back under covers that haven't fully relinquished their warmth, leaving coats and nightshirts forgotten on the ground behind them. She lets Terra kiss her again, eyes closed and hands digging hard into Terra's hips, and maybe she lets herself forget.

Maybe not. Maybe she never will, and maybe remembering is better. Terra knows what she would say if asked, but remember or forget, there's no holding on to anything forever, not even pain. The snows will pass. It will be spring again, and spring will be easier. For now, they have this – heated skin and borrowed fire, Celes's mouth on her shoulder beneath an eiderdown quilt in a room with no war outside – and they have their scars, and each other.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! The feels!

So first, I do apologize for the delayed response on my part. My health got the best of me and I was MIA from the internet for a while.

But oh lord, I've always headcanon'd Celes feeling cold for the first time after Kefka and magic are destroyed and having it be difficult for her to cope. This gives me life. And feels. And precious Terra coming in to help.

She tastes like frost and the remnants of dead magic, and her mouth is soft but she kisses fiercely, not quite desperate but hungry for something Terra can't give her and doesn't have herself any longer. --- and this line? You killed me with this line. So bittersweet and tragic and gorgeous. I was literally all :O while reading this. Thank you so so much for this story!

No need for apologies, and I really hope you're feeling better these days. Health problems can be rough. Thank you so much for coming back to comment, and I'm glad that you liked this. And Terra and Celes are both so tragic and bittersweet, but still so hopeful, which is half of what I like about them.
