We will be running the Kiss Battle on Dreamwidth only. There are two main reasons for this: 1) Dreamwidth’s comment limit is huge, allowing for longer kissing masterpieces; and 2) Dreamwidth still supports subject lines for comments, which are vital to a meme like the Kiss Battle. However, the Battle is open to everyone. Feel free to participate with your Dreamwidth (account creation is invite-free right now~!), your Livejournal or other OpenID account (see here if you want to set up an OpenID), or anonymously.

Oh, this is hilarious. I think the monk's section is my favorite; there's just something inherently laugh-worthy about a monk camping out in front of Sarah's door, communing with his crystal/ORB to cover up for his friend's sexcapades.

"Why doesn't it mean anything?" Edgar asked, his face scrunching up in a heartbreaking mixture of confusion and hurt.

Locke shrugged, face devoid of emotion and movements robotic. He'd been this way for a long time. Longer than Edgar liked to admit. "Nothing means anything," he said quietly. Edgar watched his lips as he spoke; they were still wet from when Edgar had been denied. "Not until the Empire pays for what they did."

"Vengeance won't--"

"It will. It has to," he added in a smaller voice. "Because it has to stop hurting." His leather gloves whispered against each other as he wrung his hands. "Please tell me it will stop hurting."

The kiss had been Edgar's coup de grace. Talking hadn't worked--nor had hugs, feasts, or elaborate treasure-hunting escapades. Edgar could no longer bear to see Locke sink any deeper. He leaned forward, kissing him softly on the forehead. The bandana was rough and worn against his lips--Locke's hair greasy against his fingertips.

"It won't," Edgar told him when he pulled back. "But it will hurt less."

He's so cute when he blushes.

The first time that it happened was after a late-night commiseration party of two over a bottle of Kohlingen whiskey. Loneliness plus liquor make for a dangerous mix; Edgar missed his brother, Locke grieved for his lover. But then a sympathetic arm around the shoulders was followed by a turn of the head and the brush of lips together…

They tell themselves that it doesn’t mean anything. A warm body is a warm body, especially on those bitter cold nights in the desert when even the steel walls of Figaro Castle do little to keep out the chill.

Edgar still liked girls, but if anyone could keep a secret, it was Locke. Besides, it was only once in a while, out of a need for comfort in moments of anxiety and sadness. Locke was a good friend, and not that bad of a kisser, and Edgar felt that Locke needed a little comfort as much as he did.

It wasn’t anything like love. It didn’t mean anything, Edgar told himself, as he watched Locke kiss Celes on the bow of the airship.

She thought she knew what she was getting into, following Yuna on her journey across Spira. She has been down this road twice before, after all, and both times she came home alone, her summoner left behind her -- once lost to death, once to indecision. She's used to losing people, losing summoners. She thought she knew. She thought she was ready.

Lulu sits by a campfire at the edge of the world and understand that she was wrong. She's not ready, and never will be ready. How could she be ready to sit by and watch while Yuna fights Sin to the death? She glances across the fire at Yuna, listening patiently while Tidus spins tale after tale, stalling the end in his own way. Difficult as it is to listen, she find that she cannot blame him. If she could put off the end of this journey by any means, she would do it.

Suddenly, Yuna stands. "I think--" she reaches a hand, rests it on Tidus's arm. "I think we should stop, now. Maybe."

He lowers his eyes, flushing, and pulls away; Yuna turns around and faces her guardians. "Let's go," she says, and Lulu's heart sinks into the pit of her stomach. She may not be ready, but Yuna is -- she can see the determination in Yuna's eyes.

The others gather up their things, and Lulu summons water to douse the fire, stirring up the wet ashes with a gust of wind to soak all the embers. Yuna comes to her side, leaves a light hand on her shoulder. "Thank you," she says. "You always take such good care of us."

Lulu turns and kisses her, gently on the cheek. "Of course. I could do no less."

Yuna pulls Lulu into a hug and kisses her back, a soft brushing of their lips. "I couldn't do this without you," she murmurs, and Lulu sighs, running a hand over Yuna's smooth hair. She never wants to let her go, but she must. She knows that. But for now, she holds on. Just for a minute longer, here before they plunge together over the edge of the world.

Not the requester, but I was hoping to see this filled. And this is lovely.

She likes/initiates the kiss

"I thought I would go before she did. I always have."

Cecil stares into the distance as he speaks, his eyes watery and exhausted. Edward has seen grief before, and this is the kind that hurts the most, the grief that can't be adequately expressed. "It wasn't your fault," Edward says, putting a hand on his shoulder. "You did everything that you could."

"I know," Cecil replies, but there's doubt in his voice, and it sounds strange coming from the hero of half of Edward's tales. And Edward supposes that he does know. The disease that Rosa had fought against for the past several years could not be cured by white magic; it only would've accelerated its course, healing the tumors as well as it did the healthy flesh around them. There had been no power that either the King or Queen controlled that could've made it disappear, only drugs to ease the pain and poisons to slow its progress. Rosa had borne them all so gracefully, until the end had come. They'd had time to prepare as best they could, to call their old friends to their sides before she had died.

But no amount of foreknowledge or acceptance could dull the pain that Cecil was feeling. Edward knew that much. He took Cecil's hand and moved it to his lips, pressing them gently against his knuckles, feeling the chill of his rings against his skin. "I have made arrangements," he said. "I can stay here for a while, if you wish."

"I would," Cecil said. He looked older now, older than his years. Age was not kind to wise kings, or so Edward's father had said. "Thank you."

Edward bowed his head. When they were young, Cecil had helped Edward recover from his grief. The least he could do now was return the favor. "Of course."

Thank you so much for the fill! (It is so good to come home after a long fucking two days to see fill notifications in my inbox.) :D I love the vulnerability and sensitivity with which you've written them -- especially Edgar, who I don't recall has many moments of doubt in the game. <3

I feel vaguely spoiled that I got two fills for this prompt on (apparently) the same day. XP

Yaaaay, the perfect mix of affection and ass-kicking.

Damcyan is a barren place on every map they've ever seen, a wide expanse of sand. Sometimes the artist would add images of a burning sun or a fierce wind carrying clouds of dust, just for dramatic effect.

Rosa was sure that those artists had never visited the desert themselves. There was so much life in the desert, shrubs and cacti and carpets of hardy grasses. Yes, there were places and times where little would grow, until the rains came, but then would come to life as flowers grew and bloomed.

Edward loves to show them the desert after the rains, piloting the hovercraft as she and Cecil sat beside him, watching the world go by. It shouldn't surprise her how much beauty there is out there - why would anyone live in a wasteland, especially someone as kind and as lovely as Edward? And who would be better at finding it than someone who had lived there for most of his life?

Their desert outings were her favorite part of their state visits, naturally. Just the three of them - and the guards following a discreet distance behind, she supposed, close enough to come quickly to their aid should they require them, because neither country was willing to allow their royal families to be unprotected. But they were too far away to notice when one monarch would lightly brush another's cheek, or plant a small kiss on the back of another's hand.

[I had to write something about these three being happier! That last piece was too depressing!)

He doesn't like to be scolded.
