RULES

This year, we're creating Master Links for each fandom. When leaving prompts, please put it under the right canon! If in a compilation canon, please leave the important details!

There should be kissing! All kinds of kisses are welcome: gen, shippy, smutty, chaste, familial, friendly, angry, happy! We’re pretty open to anything you want to call kissing. We are fans of all of it.

Fanart, fanfiction, drabbles, doodles, live action movies -- whatever you want to supply, we’d like to have it.

We will be running the Kissing Battle on Dreamwidth only. There are two main reasons for this: 1) Dreamwidth’s comment limit is huge, allowing for longer kissing masterpieces; and 2) Dreamwidth still supports subject lines for comments, which are vital to a meme like the Kiss Battle. However, the Battle is open to everyone. A/N: I suspect that this is something of an inversion of the prompt, but I also suspect it's one you'll like! I sort of meant for them to have a proper kiss but Ingus went all chaste and noble on me, dammit.

She finds him standing on the parapet of Castle Sasune, after they’ve returned from defeating the Djinn, together. After he’s agreed to leave with the heroes.

He waits for her to reproach him for his choice--- or worse, to wish him well in all seriousness, with no more regret for his absence than is... proper.

He knows his feelings for her are anything but.

But her first words are anything but what he expects. “Why did you come to the Sealed Cave?”

He turns in surprise to see her regarding him, intent and thoughtful. “I--- beg your pardon, princess?”

“Why did you come to the Sealed Cave, after me? I had the task well in hand.”

He regards her closely--- yes, there is a hint of reproach there, but also a hint of curiosity: she will at least wait to hear his answer before she rebukes him.

And if he is to receive the ultimate punishment that is the loss of her favor, he decides that he will at least receive it for nothing less than the truth. He goes to one knee where he stands, solemn and earnest. “I feared for your safety, my lady---“ oh, it is perhaps forward, to call her such and not “princess” or “highness”, but if he is to be censured it will be for the truth and nothing less--- “I could not stand by and risk harm coming to you.”

She regards him, still with that intent and considering look--- then, smoothly, comes toward him. “Silly,” she says gently, and tips his face up (he thrills to the touch of her hand). “I promised I would return.” Still holding his chin with the lightest touch of her fingertips that bind him more firmly than steel, she says, “And I expect the same of you, when you leave. And for the same reason.”

For a moment, he has no words, his breath caught by everything she has said in those few words, said without the vulgarity of speech; then he bows his head, even as, greatly daring, he turns his head to brush his lips against her fingers; she starts, then her hand lingers against his touch. “Gladly will I make this vow, my lady, or any other you should ask of me.”

“Come home, then, when your task is complete.” For a moment, he thinks that she is done, and that is enough--- then she adds, “And we shall see what other vows we may exchange,” and for him, that is all the world can hold.

*squeaks and flails frantically*

As soon as I saw this prompt, which I only did after starting my playalong with M_U, I knew I had to write for it! And I was going to play it straight, but, your trope-inversion fic! And Sara being the not-quite-trope-inverter but still at least something of a self-rescuing princess, well, I just HAD to! :D Thanks for such an awesome prompt to play with!

I am perfectly fine with these two either playing the trope straight or inverting it (we have talked before about my fondness for both), so I would have been delighted either way - and I absolutely love what you did with it. Thank you so much!

A/N: ...um, somehow I missed the "OGC" tag, and this is set post-TAY. I thought I'd go ahead and share anyway, on the chance it would be welcome.)

Cecil is already asleep in their bed when Rosa comes in from the bath; it’s no wonder, after a day of wrangling Baron’s court politics.

Looking at him, asleep on his side, one arm flung out and his hair falling over his face along with the moonlight from the high window, her heart twists with tenderness. The last son of the moon, she thinks, and the moonlight flatters him and frames him, gentle on his features in a way that the harshness of sunlight is not, reminding her that he is, however slightly, alien to this world.

A shadow falls behind her, and with it two hands onto her shoulders; she relaxes into the familiar touch. “You’re late,” she says, her voice barely a breath so as not to wake the sleeping Cecil.

Kain’s breath is warm on her hair. “I didn’t want to be seen--- the last thing the court needs right now is a scandal.”

“Oh, I think some of the ministers--- the more sensible ones, at least--- would be relieved to know that we’ve settled things among us to our mutual satisfaction,” Rosa says, leaning back against him.

“Hmph.” Kain’s breath stirs her hair. “It seems as though I should have risked it, if this is all the welcome I get.”

“Oh hush--- I’m still awake, after all.” She turns in his arms, loving the way his dragoon’s armor blends with the darkness--- as perfectly as Cecil’s skin blends with the moonlight--- the shock of his skin and hair the only light in the tableau he presents. “Come to bed, love.”

Kain is still sleeping the next morning when Rosa’s finished dressing, despite the sunlight streaming in through the high window. It cradles him, as the moonlight did Cecil, setting off skin tanned by years of exposure on Mount Ordeals (her heart still twists to think of it) and turning his blond hair to spun gold on the pillow.

Cecil has long since gone about his duties, so she is the only witness to the spectacle, the sheer male beauty of him--- as much a creature of sun and of earth as Cecil is of the lunar light and the moon itself.

She knows that a kiss will wake him, and that he needs the rest (years on Mount Ordeals, and Cecil has told her enough that she can imagine the rest of it, though Kain will never speak of it), so she doesn’t indulge herself.

But she goes about her duties for the day with a smile on her face, and lets the court wonder nonetheless.

She knows what she can look forward to, tonight and all the nights after, after all. The sun and the moon, both hers for the asking.

A/N: The prompt kind of mutated in my brain into Ceo's POV; I hope you like it!)

The Hooded Man says little enough, beyond sardonically incisive critiques of Ceodore’s fighting style--- he certainly says nothing of why he had troubled himself to help a stranger in the first place, or what moves him to continue doing so. Nothing personal at all; and his face stays shrouded in his hood.

Maybe that’s what does it. Nothing personal from the other man means nothing to tell him otherwise, and Ceo’s building castles in the air for himself. (Castles; like the idea that for once he’s wanted for himself, that this is about him and not his damn-near-legendary parents.) But the idea, once it enters his head, refuses to leave.

And maybe he’s imagining it, but he starts to think that the man’s eyes linger on him, sometimes, across the campfire, before they take to their respective bedrolls. Starts to think that the other finds excuses to touch, to sit close by.

Finally one evening it’s too much, one touch too many on his arm, the other man leaning close to him, and before he can think about it, he’s catching up the hand and pressing it against him as he leans across. The other’s wrappings hide his face, but when he jerks back they leave his mouth exposed, and the happy coincidence makes it too easy to follow through.

The kiss is surprisingly long, lingering, and he would have expected the other (older, more competent, so stern and formidable in so many ways) to take the lead at once if he would allow such a thing in the first place (and how many of his nights have been spent thinking of such?) but instead the other man’s lips just melt under his, parting eagerly, and it’s not long before Ceo’s got an arm around him and is being held by two strong ones in turn.

They break, finally, and Ceo’s gasping, is gratified to see that a flush stains the other man’s weather-beaten cheeks. “Well,” says the other, still holding him with an arm (offering support as much as anything, Ceo thinks wryly), “that was... unexpected.”

“I---“ Ceo catches a breath, and something impels him to be no more than scrupulously honest. “You--- you don’t ask me about--- about anything personal. Or say anything about yourself.”

“And you wanted to find out?” The familiar sardonic humor has its sharp edge blunted at the moment.

“I--- no. But I... I wanted something that was... was just... at face value, you know? It’s... it’s about the two of us, who we are together, and nobody else.”

He knows he’s said the wrong thing in an instant, when the body against his tenses; the other man could be on the other side of the campfire (the other side of the moon) for all the closeness in their touch now. Then the other looks down at him, and one hand comes up to stroke his cheek with a gentleness that burns. “Perhaps,” he says quietly, “we both need to learn to be grateful for whatever we get.”

*tiny happy squeaky noises*

eeeeeeeeeeee they are adorable together. ♥

A/N: Here, have some actual OGC this time, and also some actual goddamn kissing.

Rosa has always loved them both; but the laws and customs of Baron say she can’t have them both. So she must needs look to other criteria.

There is Cecil, the dark knight who glows like the moonlight, soft and innocent and kind to imperfections; Cecil, who became a dark knight at the king’s bidding and not his own will.

Cecil, who kisses her hand reverently, or her cheek tenderly, who never so much as hints at impropriety even when she visits his quarters in the dark of night, as she is wont to do, a habit started in childhood that she would make somewhat more if not for his innocence.

And there is Kain, a dragoon like his father before him (and against the king’s wishes), Kain whose hair glints gold in the sunlight it resembles, Kain who burns hot and impatient like the sun, is quick to anger and ever walks his own road (for all that as a dragoon it’s as likely to be a jump).

Kain, whose eyes go wide with shock when she finds him in a dark corner, but who bends readily enough to her and whose mouth burns like fire on hers.

Burns like his eyes when he sees her with Cecil; but he keeps his own counsel.

Cecil takes no liberties, but she finds the poems or the flowers amid her things in the white mages’ workrooms, where a dark knight should not go.

Light and darkness in them both, and Kain is the sun as Cecil is the moon.

The moon is gentler than the sunlight, and Cecil is the more biddable of the two.

Love has nothing to do with it, in the end.

*squeaks back* Eeeeeee, sooooo glad you like!!!!

I always think that these three as adults should be just made of cute together--- they've worked out of the worst of their shit, separately and together, and even if there are rough edges here and there, they've settled into a space they can share with each other. (...okay, now I'm going to have to torture myself with trying to beat TAY, which I ragequit after Kain and Rosa's shared dungeon ATE MY SOUL about three times running. Sigh.)

Ouch. That last line is brutal and yet so true. I like Rosa here, not a paragon of innocence ~~who questions your intent~~ but someone who makes choices rationally and with an eye to her future.

I have ALL THE THOUGHTS about this aspect of the triangle--- Rosa jumped off the screen at me from her first appearance as someone who is fairly practical and no-nonsense (just the way she takes Cecil to task for his brooding--- and given that Kain broods like it was an Olympic sport that's also a factor in her choices, lol), and then the way she takes Kain's part after he was possessed by Golbez does not have the feel of Just Friends to me.... Hence this little bit of running headcanon.

AND OH MY GOD YOU QUOTED SAVATAGE AT ME!!!!!!!!! I also have ALL THE 'TAGE LOVE. *squeakssqueakssqueaks*

I had a friend who was very into Savatage and that sort of bled over into an Exalted game once, where there was a deathknight named the Paragon of Tainted Innocence, and she at one point looked up through her lashes at someone and said "Sir, I am a paragon of innocence, and I question your intent." It was perfect.

This is true. *chortle* After all, if it weren't an Olympic sport, all that high quality practicing he's put in would be for naught.
