There should be kissing! All kinds of kisses are welcome: gen, shippy, smutty, chaste, familial, friendly, angry, happy! We’re pretty open to anything you want to call kissing. We are fans of all of it.

Fanart, fanfiction, drabbles, doodles, live action movies -- whatever you want to supply, we’d like to have it.

Be kind to others regarding character or ship choices and prompts. This should be fun for everyone!

FINAL FANTASY KISS BATTLE 2014

We will be running the Kissing Battle on Dreamwidth only. There are two main reasons for this: 1) Dreamwidth’s comment limit is huge, allowing for longer kissing masterpieces; and 2) Dreamwidth still supports subject lines for comments, which are vital to a meme like the Kiss Battle. However, the Battle is open to everyone. Feel free to participate with your Dreamwidth (account creation is invite-free right now~!), your Livejournal or other OpenID account (see here if you want to set up an OpenID), or anonymously.

Barret doesn't know all that much about child psychology. Not the way he thinks he might know, anyway, given certain schooling. But he has an inkling that most children are afraid that the monsters under their bed will hurt them, maybe take them somewhere dark and damp and cold. He's pretty sure that most children don't wake up at night crying because they're convinced that whatever's in the open closet going to take away everyone else.

He's not an expert on child psychology, but he is an expert on Marlene and he's pretty sure it means something that she does.

“Papa?” It's the third time this week he's woken up with small hands on his arm. These bouts of nighttime fear seem to come with certain weather. He has to wonder what she remembers, If she was even old enough to remember anything at all.

“Yeah hon'?”

“There...there's something under my bed...again...you believe me right?” He glances vaguely at the clock, it reads 3:17. He has to be awake in barely four hours anyway.

“'Course I do honey. But you know it's nothing bad. You just got angels watchin' over you.” She doesn't look convinced. He sighs, still bleary with sleep. “Why don't you just sleep here tonight so you can keep an eye on things? We'll investigate tomorrow.” Marlene nods eagerly and he scoots over, throwing the covers aside. He's just got a twin size cot in a back room, but Marlene is still very small.

She clambers in next to him, clinging tight to his sleep shirt and he knows for sure that way that she's been dreaming of loneliness again. He wraps his arm around her carefully, because the free one is the artificial one, and she relaxes almost at once.

When she first started talking about monsters under the bed, he'd been worried his metal arm would be part of the problem. Instead, she seems to take it as a form of reassurance, proof that her Papa can fight off anything.
“You promise? You'll help me look?”

“Yeah, I promise.” He kisses her forehead, and pulls the covers back up.

“Okay.” Her voice is already far away and slurred with sleep.

UGH MY HEART. This is so sweet and sad; I love that Marlene is dreaming of lonliness, and how she worries that the monster will take away everyone else. Ouch... I love it.

Thank you! I really adore all of sort of broken and cobbled back together family relationships in the compilation, and Barret and Marlene are definitely the cutest, I think.

Ohhh, this hit me right in the feelings. And I love the idea of Marlene not being bothered by Barret's metal arm because it actually makes her feel safer.

Oh, man, this is incredible. Your Barret voice is perfect - I love his thoughts on child psychology and how focused he is on taking care of Marlene. And the way her nightmares are about everyone else being taken away just says so much about how affected she was by everything, in a very realistic way - but I think with Barret raising her like this, she'll turn out just fine.

Oh, ow. Poor little girl. And I love stories about Barret doing his best to be a good dad and being so lost at it, but somehow he still figures things out.
