2013 KISS BATTLE!

Final Fantasy Kissing Battle 2013

RULES
  • This year, we're creating Master Links for each fandom. When leaving prompts, please put it under the right canon! If in a compilation canon, please leave the important details!

  • To leave a prompt: leave one prompt per comment, with FANDOM: CHARACTERS/RELATIONSHIP in the subject line and your prompt in the body.

  • To leave a fill: reply to the comment in question. Please use the subject line of your comment to label your work: TITLE (if relevant), FANDOM, CHARACTERS/RELATIONSHIP, RATING (ANY KINKS, WARNINGS, FLAGS).

  • There should be kissing! All kinds of kisses are welcome: gen, shippy, smutty, chaste, familial, friendly, angry, happy! We’re pretty open to anything you want to call kissing. We are fans of all of it.

  • Fanart, fanfiction, drabbles, doodles, live action movies -- whatever you want to supply, we’d like to have it.

  • Be kind to others regarding character or ship choices and prompts. This should be fun for everyone!

  • Prompt early, prompt often, and leave as many as you want.

  • Prompts can be filled multiple times!

  • To leave a blitzkrieg kiss: If you have something but no one has prompted it yet, blitzkiss away! Just reply to the comment for your fandom, and make sure you use the subject line to label your work.

  • Be sure to check back often -- new kissing action could be showing up everywhere!

  • Spread the word! Tell your friends!

FINAL FANTASY KISS BATTLE 2013

We will be running the Kissing Battle on Dreamwidth only. There are two main reasons for this: 1) Dreamwidth’s comment limit is huge, allowing for longer kissing masterpieces; and 2) Dreamwidth still supports subject lines for comments, which are vital to a meme like the Kiss Battle. However, the Battle is open to everyone. Feel free to participate with your Dreamwidth (account creation is invite-free right now~!), your Livejournal or other OpenID account (see here if you want to set up an OpenID), or anonymously.

Have fun! Get smoochin'!

A/N: So I know this is last year's Kiss Battle prompt, but I saw this while wandering through and couldn't resist! Hope that "better late than never" applies!"

Fran tugs her hood up over her ears more snugly, hating the bend it puts in them, hating the way it muffles her hearing, leaves her feeling disoriented, as though she is wrapped in cotton entire. A viera does not cover her ears at all; 'tis not done and now she understands why.

But cover them she must, for the time being, on the streets of Old Archades, where only a few non-humes venture and no viera at all. From the leering glances she gets from hume males and the comments they make when they think her merely a half-breed, she can understand why her kinswomen stay away.

So would she, had she a choice in the matter, but her last job had gone poorly, and this is the best chance of getting another, for all it takes her to Archades itself. (Her experience of hume males is enough to make her think that her kin have the right idea, keeping male and female separate save for their heats and other necessities; when males have females about them all the time, it makes them fractious and greedy.)

She hurries through the streets, head down at her usual pace, and fails to take into account just how badly muffled her senses are by the offending hood; she does not perceive the hume male in her path until it is too late--- entirely too late: they collide before she even knows he is there.

They collapse in a tumble; at first, Fran thinks in disgust, he must be drunk--- but there is no scent of alcohol or any of the other salves with which humes pollute themselves regularly, though he does not smell precisely clean even by hume standards; there is a scent about him of metal and Mist that she has come to associate with hume technology, with airships and guns. His hair is a close-cropped golden color that humes call blond and his body is stocky, compact and solid, especially by viera standards. "Oh, terribly sorry," he says, righting glasses that have gone askew and fumbling at the sheaf of papers he dropped. "I wasn't looking where I was going--- I really should wait until I'm seated to read, but sometimes one just can't resist---"

Fran blinks at him in confusion. "You should at that," she says, relieved that she does not have only herself to blame for this contretemps.

"Forgive me," he says again, then looks up at her and does a double-take.

That is when Fran realizes that her hood is knocked askew. She rights it, hastily, or tries to.

"Oh, dear," the man says, and, "Here, let me---" Fran is already reaching to claw him, expecting a liberty to be taken, but he only reaches over to straighten her hood, covering her ears neatly. "There, that's better--- well, it's worse, actually; I should rather like to see them--- your ears, I mean---" as she is about to bridle at this seeming lechery--- "I imagine they're far more useful than these little stumps for collecting sound waves; they would make excellent models for sonar devices, I should think---" Fran stares at him in confusion. "Of course, you can hardly walk around Archades like that, but if we should meet somewhere a bit more cosmopolitan---"

Slowly, Fran feels her wits returning; realizes that they are sitting on the sidewalk, thankfully out of the way of the worst of the foot traffic, while this strange hume (she decides that he is young even by their species' standards) babbles at her. "Thank you," she says slowly, trying to take all of it in.

"What?" the hume asks as if surprised to be interrupted. "I--- oh, ah, dear," he says, and clambers awkwardly to his feet. "Here---" he holds out a hand.

No one could be more surprised than Fran when she takes it and lets him help her up. "Thank you," she says again.

"Oh, you're quite welcome--- all my fault, naturally, m'mother says I'd lose my head if it weren't attached--- well, forget it, most likely, although how a body could run off without a head--- I suppose some form of remote control--- er, forgive me," he says again when he notices her expression. "Um. Er."

Fran feels a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "There is no forgiveness needed," she says, and on impulse, leans forward to kiss him on the cheek. "You are a much more pleasant representative of hume males than I had come to expect."

And with that, she leaves him, though she thinks she feels him staring after her.

After that, she finds herself better disposed to hume men; or at least curious to see if her little bespectacled blond hume is as much the exception as she had thought. Mostly, she finds herself disappointed.

And then, one day perhaps a quarter-century (give or take a few years) from the one when she hurried through Archadia's streets, she finds herself in a bar in Balfonheim, looking at a compact blond male hume from across the taproom.

Her first thought is that it is her hume, the one she had met and who had inspired her to look for more of the same; then she corrects herself: 'tis long enough in hume years that he would not look so, any more.

Still, she is curious, curious to find out if he will be like her little hume in more than looks. She makes her way over to him, determined to find out.

(He is; if anything, he is better: he is a sky pirate like herself. But in the ways that count, in their ability to see past a hume male's unthinking dries, they are entirely the same.

She decides to keep this one. It is the best decision of her life.)
