FINAL FANTASY KISS BATTLE 2012

We will be running the Kissing Battle on Dreamwidth only. There are two main reasons for this: 1) Dreamwidth’s comment limit is huge, allowing for longer kissing masterpieces; and 2) Dreamwidth still supports subject lines for comments, which are vital to a meme like the Kiss Battle. However, the Battle is open to everyone. Feel free to participate with your Dreamwidth (account creation is invite-free right now~!), your Livejournal or other OpenID account (see here if you want to set up an OpenID), or anonymously.

If you want to be part of the DOINK! Chocobo Races, and turn the Kissing Battle into a final boss battle (Cactuars vs Tonberries! WHO WILL WIN), please see this post for more information.

A/N: First time writing these two, so I'm a bit nervous. Also, I implied some Fang/Vanille, so apologies if it's not to your liking!

He hadn't meant for it to happen, and he really should've been acting like the adult he was supposed to be. After all, she could've been his daughter--five hundred years ago.

Still, she was lacking in the experience department, and he was an old man with the weight of the world on his shoulders and a big gaping hole in his heart where his son belonged.

He should've been protecting her innocence and naivety, not corrupting her with his touch.

But then, he couldn't deny that he had felt a jolt down his spine when she had pressed her small body into the heat of his in the middle of the night, seeking warmth and comfort.

His hand had then slipped, but he had a feeling that hers hadn't after he found it on his back, under his coat. Her lips tasted like some fruit he might've tried as a child, all sugary and sticky sweet, and curse his body for reacting without his permission. "We shouldn't--"

"Why not?" she asked with a small giggle, lips pressing softly against the corner of his mouth.

"I--" Sazh couldn't remember what he had been about to say.

"You don't have to worry about stealing my first kiss." Her smile turned mischievous. "I gave that one away a long time ago."

Sazh couldn't help the smile that crossed his lips at the thought of puppy love. "First boyfriend?" Another soft giggle was his answer, though he stiffened at the feel of the pads of her fingers tracing his l'Cie mark.

"My best friend Fang." She paused and leaned up to steal another kiss, and he let her. "She didn't talk to me for a week afterward."

At the look of shock on his face she broke into more tinkling laughter and hugged him, feeling warm and at peace, at least for a moment.

"You're a... you like... uh... are you...?" Sazh asked, stumbling over the question.

"Do I like girls?" she asked, amused. She hummed quietly and pressed a finger to her lips. "I'm not quite sure. Maybe you should kiss me a little more so that I can decide if I do."

"You can't just decide that after a few kisses," he started to argue, attempting to move away from her, but she tightened her arms around him, holding him close.

"It's cold. We could just cuddle for warmth!" she offered brightly, trying to distract him from his original question.

"I don't think so, kid. We shouldn't--mmph..."

It really should've annoyed him that she had a found a new way to silence him into submission, but, well, it really had been a long time since he had been comforted this way. All he'd ever wanted was to not feel alone, and maybe Vanille understood that on some level.

Still, he felt like a dirty old man taking advantage of a young girl, and already he could feel his shoulders getting heavier.

“We’ll be okay,” she assured him, pressing her ear to his chest and listening for his heartbeat. “I haven’t lost hope in our friends. You shouldn’t, either.”

“You’re right,” he replied with a long, heavy sigh. “Just be sure to share some of that hope with me from time to time.”

Vanille hugged him tightly and nodded. “Promise.”

For now, he knew that her promise would be enough to keep him moving forward. He just had to do something about the stolen kisses…

I am a Fang/Vanille fan, so the nod to that pairing was very welcome! :) This is very sweet, and a moment I can really imagine for both of them. Thank you!

You're very welcome! I was nervous about writing for both of them, especially because I didn't know when this fic would've taken place and also because it's been a while since I last played through the game... But I'm glad you liked it and that it was believable.:D
