FINAL FANTASY KISS BATTLE 2015
We will be running the Kiss Battle on Dreamwidth only. There are two main reasons for this: 1) Dreamwidth’s comment limit is huge, allowing for longer kissing masterpieces; and 2) Dreamwidth still supports subject lines for comments, which are vital to a meme like the Kiss Battle. However, the Battle is open to everyone. Feel free to participate with your Dreamwidth (account creation is invite-free right now~!), your Livejournal or other OpenID account (see here if you want to set up an OpenID), or anonymously.
Have fun! Get smoochin'!

A Losing Hand (FFVI: Daryl/Setzer, T)
Setzer had been watching her all night. It never ceased to amuse him that a woman who could coax unyielding metal into something gloriously alive in its mechanical function could lend the same artful nature to the process of seduction. Brilliant, beautiful, brutally manipulative… and blond. Was any woman allowed to be so overwhelming? Her very existence was probably breaking at least four natural laws, including one related to the conservation of energy. She made everyone she set her sights on feel like they had it to spare.
When she finally sat down at the poker table in the previously empty fifth seat beside him, the gambler hardly acknowledged her beyond doing her the courtesy of lighting her cigarette. She had brought a crowd with her: an audience of several men and more than a few women who wanted to see if the gorgeous woman with the rippling laugh could put her money where her mouth was. She had probably been bragging to them all night. Swearing up and down that she’d be able to beat the infamous Wandering Gambler at his game of choice, in his own casino.
All that mattered was that she made the blind bet. He dealt with deft fingers; a blur of movement, of dark-painted nails and glittering rings. The players picked up their cards, studying their hands with feigned disinterest, as if the starting bet at this table wasn’t more money than most people saw in a year. Two men were out, another changed three cards. A risky proposition, but Setzer never faulted someone for chasing a thrill.
The blonde stared at her cards before setting down one to exchange. He dealt her a new card. Her expression never changed as she added it to her hand.
The clink of clay chips was a sound Setzer loved, and not just because it correlated with a building thrum in his heart. There was a musical quality to it, and so many ways one could add chips to the pot. Most men pushed their stacks towards the center, but Setzer preferred to gently toss his chips in one by one and listen to them clack against each other in a protracted symphony that served well to remind his opponents exactly how much gil they stood to win or lose.
He was the first to up the ante, and he took his sweet time throwing those chips in. Between the quantity of money being wagered and the unsettling smirk on his face as he did it, he swore he could see beads of sweat breaking out on the forehead of the man across from him.
The lady was in, shoving two stacks of chips into the pot with none of the showmanship Setzer himself so adored. She liked it quick and dirty. Then, for good measure, she added another thousand gil.
To no one’s surprise, the man playing with them folded. Not that Setzer had been paying him much attention. All eyes in the room were on the lady sitting beside him with her plump lips pursed around her cigarette, lazy smoke curling from its end as she waited for him to make a move.
Weighing his options, Setzer shrugged and started tossing more chips in the pot. He could hear the faint murmurs of the crowd around him – when was he going to stop? – and one or two gasps as it dawned on people how much money was at stake here. He kept on until there was nothing left, until his fingers strummed across the green felt in front of him and found it utterly devoid of chips.
The lady grinned. Biting the edge of her cigarette (a cigar would have looked better in that mouth), she went all in. The table before them was a mess of chips.
He flipped his hand for her. A straight flush; crisp spades with a jack at the head. He was already reaching for the chip in the pot closest to him when she revealed her own hand: a royal flush of hearts.
As she began raking chips towards her, the crowd erupted into applause. More than a few of the admirers she had dragged over with her were blowing kisses her way and clamoring for her. She regarded them all with a smile that hovered somewhere between ‘mischievous child’ and ‘queen surveying her subjects’.
“Well played,” Setzer commended her. “Don’t bother with the chips. My men will see that you get all of your winnings.” He stood and, in a low murmur as he held out his hand to her, he added: “You’ve earned yourself a spot with the high-rollers, don’t you think? Come with me. I’ll get you a drink and we’ll discuss it.”
She looked him over and took one last drag on the cigarette before smashing it into the ashtray on the edge of the table. “You’re a good sport for a man who’s just lost a hell of a lot of gil. Or is it that you’re still looking to win something?” Still, she rose and took his arm, despite the protests of the men she had earlier been subjecting to the full force of her feminine wiles.
They left the casino together, its din fading behind them as they turned a corner down a dimly lit private hallway. They weren’t three steps down it before she turned on Setzer and pinned him to the wall, her lips pressed against his and her body aiming to crush him. Her mouth tasted of spicy smoke and tart red wine, and Setzer grabbed fistfuls of her blonde curls and gave himself up to it with unbridled delight.
She always kissed with her eyes open. It had taken some getting used to, but now he couldn’t imagine doing it any other way. There was a challenge in it; some outrageously intense version of a childhood staring contest.
It wasn’t until he swore he’d faint from not breathing that she stopped their kiss with a sharp bite to his lower lip. “You dealt for me from the bottom of the deck, you bastard.” It was a playful accusation, and she followed it with a kiss to his neck.
“You can’t prove anything,” the gambler countered, then practically melted at her kiss. She knew how to use all his weaknesses against him. “Mmm… Thought you’d at least let me get you to the engine room. The hallway is so common.”
“Sorry I wasn’t born with a silver spoon up my ass like some people,” she shot back with a laugh, biting his neck and forcing a shuddering gasp from him. “I thought you were going to jump me. I know it gets you going to see other men want me. I’ve been at it all night.”
“Find yourself in any hallways with any of them?” he teased, grabbing her waist and grinding his hips against hers. She cooed and gasped in his ear, and it made him growl in response. He couldn’t help himself; for all his unpredictability, some habits die hard.
“A few,” she admitted, and he was acutely aware of her breathing growing heavier. “Two men… and a woman….”
Setzer kissed her roughly. “Three in a night? You’ve been a busy minx, Daryl. Any of them outshine me?”
His partner grinned and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Maybe. Better get me to that engine room and remind me what you can do.”

Re: A Losing Hand (FFVI: Daryl/Setzer, T)
I don't have other fic posted anywhere (though I should remedy that!), but I used to rp Setzer on tumblr for a couple of years. I retired a while back, but I think we talked there a few times and I believe I still owe you a lengthy and involved Setzer/Daryl airship smut which I'm still up for writing if you're still up for reading. =) And any prompts that you can think of with these two, I'm down to fill any time. I'm not writing as much these days so prompts are a nice way to get the cogs turning for me.
Re: A Losing Hand (FFVI: Daryl/Setzer, T)
I AM ALWAYS UP FOR READING AIRSHIP SMUT. If you ever feel like writing anything about these two just poke me please-- sometimes it takes me a while to get to internet responses & things, BUT BELIEVE ME I AM ALWAYS THRILLED ABOUT STUFF LIKE THIS and I'm glad we re-connected on here, in a way of sorts :D
