There should be kissing! All kinds of kisses are welcome: gen, shippy, smutty, chaste, familial, friendly, angry, happy! We’re pretty open to anything you want to call kissing. We are fans of all of it.

Fanart, fanfiction, drabbles, doodles, live action movies -- whatever you want to supply, we’d like to have it.

Be kind to others regarding character or ship choices and prompts. This should be fun for everyone!

FINAL FANTASY KISS BATTLE 2014

We will be running the Kissing Battle on Dreamwidth only. There are two main reasons for this: 1) Dreamwidth’s comment limit is huge, allowing for longer kissing masterpieces; and 2) Dreamwidth still supports subject lines for comments, which are vital to a meme like the Kiss Battle. However, the Battle is open to everyone. Feel free to participate with your Dreamwidth (account creation is invite-free right now~!), your Livejournal or other OpenID account (see here if you want to set up an OpenID), or anonymously.

Yuffie didn't get it.

The guy had big, gold spines sticking out of his head and called it hair, was as pale as milk even though they spent 99.998% of their time walking around under the sun, and, yeah, ok, he could fight all right but he was no Great Ninja Yuffie!

And still, every time she turned around either Aerith was flipping her sandy-hair and giggling at him or Tifa was watching him furtively beneath her too long lashes.

So when he started another one of his endless monologues and Aerith fluttered all pink and girly around him and Tifa just looked on quietly, Yuffie walked right over and planted a kiss on Cloud's sallow mouth.

At least it shut him up. It shut everyone up, actually.

When she pulled back a second later, it was to find Cloud's cobalt eyes full of incredulity--an exact mirror of her own expression, she was sure; the way the other two girls had been looking at him, Yuffie had been sure Cloud's kiss would have floored her.

Not even close.

"Blech," she told him and pushed away. She settled down between Aerith and Tifa on the grass and shared bluntly, "You would think a guy would know what to do when a girl kisses him. I've had a better time kissing my Shurikens."

Aerith stared at her, jaw unhinged.

Tifa blinked, then a smile shone shyly and ruby eyes flickered toward a still speechless Cloud. "He likes it better when he's doing the kissing, that's all," she shared softly. "And when that happens, it's like an kissing a Summon Materia. You can appreciate Materia, can't you, Yuffie?"

Kissing Cloud could never, ever in her book be compared to Materia! But as she watched Cloud stare unblinkingly at Tifa, she wondered if maybe in their books, it was more.

Still, she didn't get it.

Yaayyyyyy, didn't think anyone'd pick this up. :D Liked Yuffie's train of thought at the beginning and her directness (and of course Cloud would be absolutely rubbish at kissing, heh, the poor guy doesn't seem like he even knows what hits him half the time). Thanks a bunch for the fill!

Yuffie Kisaragi, last flower of Wutai's great warrior line, would have said that she was afraid of nothing.

So, sitting on the cable car with Cloud, at the end of the most excellent date imaginable, she tells herself that she is not going to start now.

After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

She leans forward--- she doesn't have to nerve herself, does she, she's Yuffie Kisaragi--- and presses her lips to his cheek.

For a long moment, he looks at her in silence. Then, just as she's opening her mouth to speak, his lips find hers.

Fortune, Yuffie thinks smugly as she returns it, always favors the bold--- and there is no one bolder than she.

YAY!!!! I'm so glad you like it--- Yuffie is the only person I can ever seriously ship Cloud with, so I knew I had to write for this prompt!!!! Especially since it begs for playing with Yuffie's bravado, the ways she uses that to psych herself up. (I have headcanon that under all the bluster, she is... well, as much a patriot of Wutai as Ashe is of Dalmasca in FFXII, and this is the first time I made that connection, so thanks for that as well! ^.^)

Far be it from me to ask any more from you, but you should totally write more Cloud/Yuffie! :D It's one of those super-unexplored pairings that I think has a lot of potential ... you know, one of those pairings where both characters have the possibility to grow and change from it (probably for the better, lots of room for great character moments, methinks).

Glad my prompt was inspiring! ^^

No problem about the account-bouncing, and in that case, I'll add that the other reason I got off my butt to post was seeing that you thought nobody would take you up on the prompt--- I was like, "Noooo, must encourage the Yuffie/Cloud!"

And you are SPOT ON about the growth potential--- one of the reason I like them together is, paradoxically, how much I hate Cloud in canon, lol, and I think of Yuffie as someone with enough drive--- not just ego, but the way her sense of Wutaian pride and pride in herself are entwined down to the core of her--- not to be sucked into the vortex of Cloud's, um, issues. (I think of his ego as a soap bubble full of poison: large, fragile, and spilling damage everywhere when it pops.) And for Cloud to be drawn into Yuffie's quest to restore the glory of Wutai, to be a hero for her throne, rather than having his urge to be the hero focused on his own desires for personal glory... yeah. Basically the only reason I haven't written more of them is how little I like him--- generally, I have to like both halves of a pairing in order to write them. But if you want to throw prompts about them at me, I can probably bat some ficlets back over the net, lol!

Oh, wow, thanks so much! I love Yuffie dearly--- there is that surface level of her bravado and ego, but then if you do the Wutai Pagoda sidequest you get to see the emerging patriotism, the sense that her ego is also about her national pride and her role as princess, that just makes me smile-smile-smile. (As I said above, she is a little like Ashe in FFXII in that way, but I honestly found Yuffie's playful egoism and mischief easier to warm up to, though Ashe has grown on me.) (Whiiiiiich is waaaay off topic for a thank you--- help, I'm fangirling and I can't shut up!)

Oh, wow, thanks! I love Yuffie to BITS AND BITS, so I am glad she worked for you--- and I love her whole "flower of Wutai" schtick in canon, the way it subtly brings home how much her ego is tied up in her patriotism, her sense of herself and Wutai being bound up in each other, so that you loved that line of all makes me squee!
