DOINK! Friending Meme!

We’ve always wanted to have a friending meme for Doink, but... in an exchange where gifts are surprises, and gifters and recipients are big secrets, it never seems like the right time. So we’d like to have one now! No one has to worry about ruining the big reveal, and we all get to have fun and make some friends!

If you’d like to participate, we’ve prepared some text you can copy and fill out to tell the community a little bit about yourself, where friends can find you, and which parts of Final Fantasy fandom make you sparkle like a happy Megalixir. Feel free to fill out as much or as little as you’d like - we encourage everybody to share their fandom likes and loves, so that you can connect with like-minded fans, but it isn’t necessary.

The way to play is quite simple:

1. Copy the text, fill it out, and leave a comment! We’ll have two posts, one for LJ and one for DW - if you’re looking for new friends in both places, feel free to fill both out.
2. Scan the page and read about the Doink community! Does someone look interesting? Strike up a conversation! Make some friends! WRITE COMMENT FIC. Whatever you’d like!
3. Add folks to your various friend networks as you desire!
4. Repeat as needed.
5. Everyone wins!

Just two notes before we start:

• This is not exclusive to Chocobo Down participants, or to Doink participants. It’s open to everyone! So please spread the word.


• We hope this doesn’t really need to be said, but please stay kind, positive, and respectful of everyone’s widely different kinds of fandom love.

Some digging on teh interwebz tells me that according to the Ultimania guide, it was actually where the new Lunatic Pandora tested out it weapons.

...I like the idea of chalking it up to Selphie much better, though.

I like how they complement each other, and yes, it really isn't easy for them to become involved. There's that class difference getting all up in their business. And you know? I like that. I'm kind of a sucker for relationships that involve class differences like theirs.

A Lunar Cry makes sense. It does more so now that I'm looking up all the things on the FF wikia.

AHAHAHA YES though a lot of it is kinda dubious, because MGS is for twisted crack. It's a great fandom to be in, though - never overwhelmingly busy and with tons of variety (partly due to the sometimes straining fact that it is really more like 3 or so overlapping fandoms rolled into one - not unlike FF fandom, except that we mostly share one canon continuity). I run the mgs_fanworks community - would you be interested in our Christmas exchange? I think we're starting signups tomorrow. Don't worry about it if you're busy, though.

THAT WORKS. Oh Refia, maybe adult supervision would have stopped you having a canon romance with someone who's about to get married to someone else. I settled for writing shipfic set several years after the game. (and I need to finally finish it, too. sod WIPs.)

Wait, what? Wakka's supposed to be older than she is? I would have sworn he was a year younger! I thought he was 22 and she was 23. I guess it makes sense for him to be older in one way, since she was with his younger brother, but... I refuse. My impression would explain the memory discrepancy a little, too.

What servers, out of curiosity? I'm mostly Alliance on Cenarion Circle and Horde on Wyrmrest, but haven't had much time to play lately beyond poking my head in for Hallow's End.

It was Maduin's change from male to female between VI and IX that really threw me for a loop.

Oooh. Good point. I found the Espers in FFXII/Tactics Advance to be really strange, given that FF Tactics itself had the traditional complement of summons in addition to the Zodiac monsters, and then those were missing entirely from XII. (Weirdly having been replaced by the bosses from other games in the series...)

I really need to play more of the Ivalice games. So that was one of the reasons for the summons in XII? They struck me as really interesting (sometimes creepy) but... not really as Final Fantasy summons.

The Maduin gender issue could actually make for some really interesting VI or crossover fanfic, although my first reaction when I was playing was "WRONG, he's Terra's father!"

4. Ashe, because I am in love with her entire storyline and persona.
5. Cloud Strife, because he was originally a deconstruction of FF heroes and is beautifully fucked up.

1. Locke/Celes, because they are cracked along the edges and need each other.
2. Zack/Aerith, because there is just something about their story that really gets to me.
3. Edgar/Locke, because they are prince/pauper BFFs and I think they would have lots of casual fun together.
4. Zidane/Locke, because they are both thieves treasure hunters and would get into all kinds of competitions and it would be AWESOME.
5. Cloud/Firion, for which I blame Dissidia.

I'm actually not that pairing-driven, though; I love gen/het/gay and a good fic is more important than the pairing, for me.

Themes, kinks, tropes that I really love to see in Final Fantasy fanworks: Magickink is a big one, and I am fond of light bondage. I also enjoy vaguely dubious consent. Other than that, whatever makes a good story!

One ridiculous thought or question I have about FF and/or fandom, to start discussion with my new fandom friends: You've all seen The Sevening, right?
