Final Fantasy Kiss Battle 2016!!

Yes, it's happening! Right here and right now! :D

We are still considering our availability and options for running a full exchange sometime this year, and we'll keep you posted on any future developments. In the meantime, we wanted to bring back the Kiss Battle: it's a tradition, and really fun!

Since we aren't doing the Chocobo Races this year, there are no teams and no points. However, we will give a shout-out to the top five contributors, with special recognition to the person who creates kisses for the most canons. :)

Final Fantasy Kiss Battle 2016

  • All prompts will be organized by fandom, using Master Links. When leaving prompts, please put it under the right canon! If in a compilation canon, please include the important details!

  • To leave a prompt: leave one prompt per comment, with FANDOM: CHARACTERS/RELATIONSHIP in the subject line and your prompt in the body.

  • To leave a fill: reply to the comment in question. Please use the subject line of your comment to label your work: TITLE (if relevant), FANDOM, CHARACTERS/RELATIONSHIP, RATING (ANY KINKS, WARNINGS, FLAGS).

  • There should be kissing! All kinds of kisses are welcome: gen, shippy, smutty, chaste, familial, friendly, angry, happy! We’re pretty open to anything you want to call kissing. We are fans of all of it.

  • Fanart, fanfiction, drabbles, doodles, live action movies -- whatever you want to supply, we’d like to have it.

  • Be kind to others regarding character or ship choices and prompts. This should be fun for everyone!

  • Prompt early, prompt often, and leave as many as you want.

  • Prompts can be filled multiple times!

  • To leave a blitzkrieg kiss: If you have something but no one has prompted it yet, blitzkiss away! Just reply to the comment for your fandom, and make sure you use the subject line to label your work.

  • Be sure to check back often -- new kissing action could be showing up everywhere!

  • Spread the word! Tell your friends!

We will be running the Kiss Battle on Dreamwidth only. There are two main reasons for this: 1) Dreamwidth’s comment limit is huge, allowing for longer kissing masterpieces; and 2) Dreamwidth still supports subject lines for comments, which are vital to a meme like the Kiss Battle. However, the Battle is open to everyone. Feel free to participate with your Dreamwidth (account creation is invite-free right now~!), your Livejournal or other OpenID account (see here if you want to set up an OpenID), or anonymously.

Have fun! Get smoochin'!

Edge/Rydia, PG-13

Edge does not like this moon. He does not like its shadows - they're unfamiliar to one who normally speaks shadow, so foreign it's like being thrust back into the delegation to Damcyan when he was six years old and thought it would be wicked cool to slip away only to get lost in some awful backwoods suburb where the dialect consisted of grunting and knives and being rescued is horribly embarrassing and anyway, this is another reason Edge does not like this moon: his memories, most of the bad ones anyway, float up to the surface like sludge, pulled by the wax-and-wane tide of uncanny light.

The thing is, Edge thinks, apparently he's the only one suspicious of this wrong-glowing chunk of crystal castle. Over the last weeks he has become respectful of his battle comrades - even Kain, who to be honest Edge still suspects, but Edge admires the fierce desperate keen of his spear as he slashes and pushes himself towards redemption in battle - but the respect is dwindling as they approach that damned crystalline castle for what finally seems to be their last push. Cecil has this bedamned look of destiny and rapture on his face as if he's finally reached some pinnacle of being -- Edge could be down with that, sure, or he could be frightened by it, but mostly he's annoyed because when someone starts thinking destiny they stop thinking traps and suspicious things trying to kill me and that's when things come and kill you dead.

Edge has no desire to be dead. He has much desire to be alive, and to be King, and to turn what his parents wrought and lost into majesty and honor. And not to be, you know. Dead.

So. He hates the moon. Cecil thinks the moon is destiny. Rosa agrees with Cecil - or she thinks Cecil is her destiny; Edge can't unravel the look on her face. He's seen it before: it isn't a bad look; it's the look he sees on Eblana shieldmaidens when they dedicate their fierce deep loyalty to throne or soldier, a look that deserves respect. But it also means that Rosa is gone, along with Cecil. And Kain isn't much better: the ferocity Edge had noted and respected has faded into a vague suffering, such that the three of them are sitting at the crossroads of Noble Road and Self-Sacrifice Boulevard.

And then there is Rydia.

She has caught his eye from the beginning, as one free of the trappings of royal life; Cecil, Kain, and Rosa are all gently-reared and bear it in every line, but this tiny slip of a green-haired girl does not and it speaks to Edge. He has had his fill of nobility, the son of a wild princess who caught a merchant's-son and made a love-match to echo down Eblan's history. He has no patience left for protocol and propriety on a moon made of three parts living crystal, one part awful decor, and one part malice.

But Rydia, rather than being duly suspicious of this moon, sits enthralled and amused by it: her face is alight with a simple joy and she keeps burbling laughter, pressing her palms to various outcroppings of rock and crystal, touching things Edge cannot see, and talking to herself: sometimes in the tone of a humorous argument, sometimes a reverent prayer. It would be extremely creepy if it weren't so endearing; she means it honestly, with no layers of disguise or deference. Edge does not approve of her casual acceptance, but he cannot disapprove of the sweet wonder she takes in her surroundings.

He comes to sit beside her, now, because even if she isn't properly suspicious of her surroundings she is at least aware, compellingly aware, and he sees something wondrous in her eyes that he wants to try to sip, like a beggar at a banquet.

"There's a song," she says as he sits, apropos to nothing; "Can you hear it?"

His tongue goes through several flips which might spell out the song of our love, darling; or I hear the beat of your heart; or even isn't it creepy out today? But he's learnt - he's learning - that Rydia doesn't operate on the same level of his pick-up lines, and instead he says, "I can't. What's it like?"

"The other crystals," Rydia says. Her mouth perks up in a sideways hum, as if this is the most pleasant thing she has experienced all day, and Edge wants to trace it with his fingers. "They're ready for us - calling out, like a sign we can follow." Her mouth quirks in a frown. "You have magic; can't you hear it?"

"Ah," Edge says, because this is familiar ground. "I told you ninja magic is in a realm of its own, darling."

The frown deepens, but it isn't unhappy; instead it's pensive, as if Rydia is bending her concern about his magic like an inquisitive bird. She likes to butt her head against it like a mystery, and Edge finds it amusing. "It tastes like magic," she argues. "Just - hush. And listen."

Her fingers find his lips and rest; Edge dares to kiss them, a brush like the lunar wind, and she both laughs and shushes him. "Pay attention," she scolds, her fingers pressing harder.

Edge thinks, blinks, even takes a long serious second to taste the air and the wind and these shadows that seem lighter than their source - but he senses nothing but cold empty wind and Cecil's stability and rhythmic crystal.

"Oh, well," Rydia says, withdrawing her fingers; her voice is a dismissal, no matter how cheery, and Edge wonders how she knew before he did; wonders, then follows her fingers with his mouth, pressing his lips against them until they end up on her cheek, her cheekbone, her brow. Her lips.

Rydia pulls back, then sniffs the air and suddenly smiles, bright: like the sun, rays refracting off of the crystal around them, like lightning and fire and ice - their shared magics - a light that makes all the shadows fall into place, darker than the source and deep and glyphs his eyes can read.

"Yes, like that," Rydia says, and Edge has no idea what just happened but he leans forward to meet her mouth with his, gleaming and joyful force: and he knows he's lost in these shadows, but there's a path here limned in moon-lit crystal, and he can follow that.

*screaming internally forever*

First off, I do apologize for the super delayed response. My health got the best of me and I'm just now getting around to the stuff I missed.

Second off, holy crap, you don't understand how much I needed this kind of story. This is beyond amazing. This completely sounds like it's from Edge's POV and reminds me why I fell for the guy to begin with. Ahhh and all the tidbits with Rydia! Perfect! Oh, they make me so damn happy. Thank you immensely for this! :D
