October Prompt-a-thon: How to Play

1. Teams from the September Chocobo Races still apply! You are still signed up if you signed up last month, but as with the last round, you're not obligated to participate.

However, if you're not on a team, you must choose one in order to take part in October's festivities, but don't worry, it's easy! You can sign up at the Choose a Team post, but you do not have to wait to be added to your team roster before prompting or filling. In order for your contributions to count for your team, your sign up comment needs to be dated before any prompts or fills you might make and that's it. You can sign up any time throughout the month up until the 26th. :)

2. Unlike September's round, we will be making all new prompts for people to create from (fic! art! sculptures from wax!) in the comments of this entry. Each prompt that's at least one sentence and descriptive (think scenarios, or see some our DOINK! guidelines on prompts) earns your team one point. You can get up to five points for leaving up to five prompts.

They have to be your words: one word prompts, single phrases/quotes, lyrics, etc. do not count. We encourage descriptive, open prompts that can be filled with fic or art, because you never know who’s going to like your ideas!

If you’d like a starting point for some of your prompts, October’s unofficial theme is Curse or Cure — just like Trick or Treat, but with a little magical twist! Whether it’s playful, sweet, or downright scary, we’d love to see some cursing, curing, and casting in your prompts for October.

3. You cannot fill your own prompts.

4. However, you can fill prompts left by either team. Start your strategic alliances!

5. Every fill for a prompt is worth five points. You may post your fills as replies to the comment with the prompt, or you can post the fills on AO3 (in our Chocobo Down 2011 collection), or both — it’s up to you.

6. Because we assume there will be a lot of prompts, to make it easier for mods to count up points (and for those looking for a specific team/fandom), please do use the subject line when prompting. Here are some examples:

Comment body: Skypirate!AU! Rival skypirates coming together for illegal shenanigans which include tons of action sequences and makeouts!

Nothing grows on the mountain anymore. For generations, children have been warned not to venture near it after dark, lest the Blighted Despot turn them into his undead slaves.

When she discovers that her father is forgetting spells, Anna talks him into trying a few (potentially quite bizarre) folk remedies for memory loss.

(Quick rules question before I start posting prompts - are we allowed to only post five prompts total, or are we only allowed to get five points for posting prompts but we can post more beyond that?)

The scientists who live in the mansion in Nibelheim don't believe in ghosts. But their recent observations suggest that they might exist.

Rydia and Rosa attempt to teach each other their magics, and learn how they are different - and alike. (Success or failure depends on you, and results - from hilarious to tragic - as well as meta, explanations, or illustration of them casting would be awesome~!)

Ellone's magic shows her someone's secret in their dreams. (Is Quistis harboring a secret crush? Does Rinoa know something about her magic she doesn't want to tell? Where is Seifer?)

Someone (or perhaps everyone) has been turned into an imp, and the usual solutions are either unavailable or not working as expected.

They say that the land where Kefka's Tower once rested is cursed - full of strange lights and phantom laughter. They say that the ones who spend too many days there sometimes go mad.

They might be right.

Just off the coast, there's a mermaid always staring longingly at Onrac, and the local witch is intrigued enough to get involved.

(The witch's only line is remarking on your party's legs! CLEARLY THERE IS A CONNECTION.)

Magic flowed through Selphie's mind long before she had ever met a Guardian Force. But she didn't understand it, and so sometimes it came out in odd, unfocused ways.

Fang was the one of the pair who had the sweet tooth - a fact that Vanille liked to take advantage of.

After Sin's defeat, Luzzu leaves to find a purpose in the new world. Wakka and Lulu go with him, to make sure that he comes back home.

The Turks sometimes work with the WRO - and so does Yuffie. Does she get along with Tseng, or consider him a traitor? Does she amuse or annoy him? Anything with these two interacting, from gen to romance.

So I have a huge thing for Edward's obvious fanboying of Cecil, particularly if it turns slashy. What would happen in a situation where only Edward's bardliness can get them out of trouble and Cecil badass Paladinery is basically useless? Can also be gen, if that's your flavor.

If you can make this work without either killing off Rosa or having Cecil spend a lot of time rambling about Kain I will love you forever.

Duncan is trying to teach his students the ancient art of Blitz, but its supernatural properties are proving exceedingly difficult for straightforward-thinking Sabin & Vargas to comprehend. How do they open their minds to the most spiritual aspect of their martial arts training? Why does Sabin eventually succeed and Vargas fail?

Halloween party in the Garden! (They can totally have Halloween if it makes for cute fic, right?) Costumes (or surly refusal to wear costumes), hijinks, and makeouts. \o/

FFXII AU where Penelo and Vaan weren't involved in the events of the game at all (for whatever reason) but everything else is the same. Penelo and Larsa meet cute some way! Maybe Larsa, Emperor and Supreme Eligible Bachelor of Ivalice, sneaks away from his handlers on a state visit to Dalmasca and runs into Penelo in the street! Or, Penelo, superstar dancer and martial arts teacher, is invited to Arcadia as a guest performer/instructor for cultural exchange and is intrigued by her host. Cue a secret, whirlwind romance, Vaan being overprotective and suspicious, terrible princess jokes, and makeouts. :D

Their final days together before Basch flees to Dalmasca and Noah moves with his mother to Archadia. Anger, betrayal, despair - how do the twins deal with the finality of this parting?

Fran finds herself suddenly and quite unexpectedly able to hear the Wood again. How does she deal with it? What is this communion like for a Viera? Do the things she hears make this a comfort or a curse?

Their beloved city is at war and on the verge of defeat; they both think they have the answer to save their home, but in very different ways. One finds out what the other is planning and tries to put a stop to it.

(Inspired by the random pairing list I generated today; this duo came up, and the possibilities really struck me.)

Gippal steals the new airship that New Yevon has just commissioned for a joyride, not realizing that Baralai is inside.

Hijinks ensue.
