A Multimedia Gift Exchange for All Final Fantasy Fandoms

Rules | FAQ | Schedule

Welcome to the reveal, everyone! We made it! *\o/* Congratulations to our fan creators, artists and writers and betas and pinch hitters and everyone that promoted DOINK! this round, and made it a success. Gift notifications should be going out now.

Please remember to leave feedback, especially for the person who created your main exchange gift! AO3 also boasts kudos, which you can also choose to leave as well (but please, comment on your specific gift!). If you signed up for the exchange, you received something, even if you had to default, so please take the time to go by and say hello and thank your gifter. ♥

DOINK! 2014 Collection | DOINK! Moogle Fluff 2014 (For Now) Collection

Remember that all creators are still anonymous, and will be revealed in 48 hours, on Saturday, May 26, 2014 at 23:00 UTC. Creators, while your work is anonymous, comments you post will also be listed anonymously, so you can reply to comments. But otherwise, mum's the word — please don't post about your work (including posting it to Tumblr) for just a little bit longer.

Have fun!

A Multimedia Gift Exchange for All Final Fantasy Fandoms

Rules | FAQ | Schedule

Beta Volunteer ranks have been built and signups are closed. You can check them out at Summon A Beta! Here's how the DOINK! beta system works:

  • Each beta lists the medium(s) they can beta, pertinent fandoms, and a short blurb where they talk about their strengths and weaknesses!

  • We asked each beta to include how many pieces they could handle at any one time — the number of fairies corresponds to this count. If a beta's fairies are all gray, they are booked solid, so try to choose a different one.

  • Each request will come to us. We will then connect you with your beta on our end to keep their information from ending up in the hands of spammers; no contact info is displayed on the website.

The last day to submit requests for a beta is Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 23:00 UTC. After this, if you need editing help, you will have to seek outside assistance. We want to be able to give our betas enough time to handle any sudden influx of work.

We reward our betas who beta a minimum of one fanwork by putting their prompts up during Moogle Fluff so that the community can flood them with fluffy love. All betas who signed up — even those who didn't beta any work this round — have their prompts put on our Chocobo Down list post round, to stay forever and be available for all future rounds of Moogle Fluff, Chocobo Down, and Chocobo Races. \o/

Other things you can do!

You can still sign up to be a pinch hitter! Pinch hit signups never close and we really appreciate all the help. :) If you need an AO3 account, just let us know!

If you've created work for past rounds, before we were on AO3, we would love for you to upload it to our corresponding AO3 collections:

2007

Final Fantasy Exchange 2007 - collection name: ff_exchange2007

Moogle Fluff 2007 - collection name: mooglefluff2007

2009

Final Fantasy Exchange 2009 - collection name: ff_exchange2009

Moogle Fluff 2009 - collection name: mooglefluff2009

We hope everyone is enjoying their prompts. Good luck! :D

If you can't load the page, or experience any other problems, please try again in 30 minutes to an hour. We apologize profusely for any inconvenience this may cause! Once we get the all-clear that everything is back up and running, we'll let you know.

As of now, our assignment queue is empty, and the world is now full of 184 prompts left by all our participants. We feel pretty tingly over here, excited to see what everyone comes up with.

Of course, our Google Overlords sometimes treat us like a spammer, so you might not have received your assignment. We will be watching for any bounced e-mails or outright rejections.

On your end, if you have not received your assignment by Sunday, April 3rd, 23:00 UTC, please send us an email immediately letting us know. Making the connection with us first usually means we can reply and have better luck. :)

Please remember that the upload deadline for regular exchange signups is Saturday, May 7th, 2011, 23:00 UTC!

Success! Matching was a little difficult this year, just in terms of how giving and receiving overlapped — it happens! — but in the end, the moderators have scratched our heads and squealed and confirmed, and now we're in the process of sending out assignments. Yay, us! \o/

The deadline for DOINK! 2011 is Saturday, May 7th, 2011, 23:00 UTC. You should click that link to find out what time that is where you live. Learn it, love it, live it! It is your finish line!

We hope everyone gets their assignment with no trouble, but google has been a surly behemoth in the past. We will make a post confirming when assignments have all gone out. If you haven't received your assignment 12 hours after that post goes up, contact us immediately.

Things to remember:

  • Regular assignments must meet DOINK! quality guidelines.

  • We try our hardest to provide multiple prompts for everyone, but we only guarantee one match.

  • If you have problems, please contact us sooner rather than later!

Once your receive your assignment, mum's the word. (Of course, your beta is the exception.) Don't accidentally give yourself away by friending your recipient or asking them anonymous questions. If you need clarification on their prompts or have other questions, send us an email and we will ask for you, preserving your anonymity! Use the Modly Mognet, folks — we're always happy to facilitate a little intermoogle communication!

And, of course, if you'd like to join us in DOINK! chat, you're definitely free to come and chat about assignments — be careful not to spoil any surprises, but if you wanna get a little boost as creation time begins, feel free to drop by!

Finally, beta signups close in just a few hours, so this is your last chance to sign up!

Good luck to everyone and have fun!

Beta Volunteer signups will close at Saturday, April 2nd, 2011, 23:00 UTC (click that link to find out what time that is in your area). A soon as the form is closed we will have our beta ranks ready and willing to tackle whatever you can throw at them! \o/

Please remember that when signing up as a beta volunteer, you don't have to ask for prompts. You can click the button that says, "I don't want anything, thanks!" and the form will not require you to provide them. This is if you want to help out but don't really want anything, already have plenty of prompts from your regular signups, or any other reason!

That's all they wrote. Regular DOINK! 2011 signups are closed. However, you can still sign up to be a beta volunteer until Saturday, April 2nd, 2011, 23:00 UTC. As always, you can also sign up to be a pinch hitter at any time during the exchange.

Starting now, moderators will be chasing up any issues, working on clarifications and matching as fast as we can! Everyone is guaranteed their matches at the latest by Saturday, April 2nd, 2011, 23:00 UTC, although we hope to not hit any snags and get them sooner! To make things easier on us, it would be great if you could add ff.exchange@gmail.com to your address book. This helps your assignment not go to spam!

Everyone charge your lanterns, here we go!

As signups roll along, we're hoping to particularly encourage more participants from smaller and farther-flung corners of Final Fantasy fandom -- so if you know anyone from places we haven't been able to reach as well, we'd be totally grateful if you could drop them a line! We have handy banners and our front page contains links and explanatory text =D

But that's not the only way you and your friends an help! Besides spreading the word, there's another really important way to help make the exchange a success -- pinch hitting!

Pinch Hitting for DOINK! 2011

This year, we have a new pinch hitting system that will hopefully last us a while and make it even easier to volunteer -- we've set up a mailing list specifically for pinch hitters. You can join the list here. You have complete control in this list and can join/leave as you wish. The subscriber list is protected.

You don't need to be a DOINK! participant - regular or beta volunteer - to be a pinch hitter, but you do need an AO3 account (just send us an e-mail and ask for an invite, or join the queue).

Here's how it works: moderators will send pinch-hit requests to the list and anyone is free to claim them. Claims are first-come, first served! Confirmation will be sent to the volunteer who was the quickest draw, and an alert will be sent to the list itself letting everyone know the hit's been claimed. Pinch hits often do go fast, so be on your toes! Accepting a pinch hit means you agree to our basic guideline policy for fanwork, which you can find on our Walkthrough. You will also be assigned an upload deadline.

We absolutely appreciate all the awesome folks who help us out with pinch hitting, especially at the end of the round. Thanks to everyone already signed up and to any future volunteers. ♥

Signups are Open!

As always, you can sign up as a participant, a beta, or both!

Regular signups will be open until Monday, March 21st, 2011, 23:00 UTC.

Beta Signups will be open until Saturday, April 2nd, 2011, 23:00 UTC.

As a reminder, here's the full DOINK! 2011 schedule — check that you have the time for creation and uploading before signing up!

DOINK! 2011 Schedule )

Important Signup Notes
  • This year, all forms ask for a passcode as part of your signup information. This can be any short code or phrase and acts like a password, allowing you to go back and make edits — and letting us make sure it really is you!

  • Please do not use your back button to navigate the forms or make edits. Each form has a confirmation screen at the end with an option to return to a previous point to make changes; please use this instead of the back/forward browser buttons. Take advantage of the confirmation page — it's the best place to catch problems.

  • You will be sent a confirmation email for all signups — remember that this email provides you with directions for fixing mistakes or making changes!

Guidelines for Signing Up as a Regular Participant

The form is very similar to last year's, so if you're familiar with the process, you should be all set! For anyone who has not participated before, or anyone who needs a refresher, there are directions and help text throughout the form, and you're always welcome to ask questions!

Our most consistent feedback in exit polls is scrawny prompts, so don't be afraid to give your gifter some guidance, scenarios, and themes. Just don't box them in with too many specifics. :) Check out our guide, Writing Good Prompts.

New Friends!
We have a new affiliate, Final Fantasy Land, located at [livejournal.com profile] ff_land, a Final Fantasy-themed challenge community where you first get sorted into one of six teams and then compete to earn points and win the game! It's a place to meet fellow fans, share fanworks, and have fun together in a competitive environment, so check it out if it sounds interesting. :)

Additional Notes:
Remember, if you're going to be away during signups, we have created directions on assigning a proxy.

If you need an AO3 account, just send us an e-mail and we'll get one out to you ASAP.

If you're not sure about signing up as a regular participant, you can always sign up to be a pinch-hitter. You can sign up any time -- pinch hit signups never close!

Tell your friends! If you would like to help spread the word about the upcoming signups, we have some banners you can use located here.

As signups are just under a week away, we want to make sure that those who will not be around during signups still have a chance to register for DOINK! 2011, and that everyone else knows what to expect! We have an important change in signup procedure to alert you to, as well as instructions for signing up by proxy.

[ETA 2011-03-11 Based on feedback, we have made some changes to the wording of the signup form. We know that some of you have already made proxy arrangements, and we want to assure you that this should not impact those arrangements — none of the options or function of the form have changed. However, we did try to edit the wording on the surrounding text to be more inclusive. The original wording is preserved in this comment. Thank you for your feedback and patience!]

Signup Form Preview and Supported Fandoms

While we'll go over some of the essentials of signups again in the post opening signups week, we're previewing the process now so that you have time to arrange proxies — or just get your answers ready ahead of time!

The biggest change in signup procedure this year is the passcode: we'll be asking for your AO3 username and email address, same as last year, but will also require a passcode. This can be any short phrase or code, and we need it for a little extra security if you have to edit your signup after submission. Other than that, it's all pretty much the same as last year!

Chocobo Down

If you're feeling creative as we gear up for the 2011 round, we encourage you to create some Chocobo Down! The Chocobo Down 2010 collection is still open and will be so until sign-ups begin. Here's what's hanging out in there right now:

Chocobo Down works )

We'll be doing at least one more Chocobo Down round up post before sign-ups for anything that is created as we approach the big day. :) Make sure to post it to the chocobodown2010 collection so that it catches our eye!

DOINK! on DeviantArt

DOINK! now has a group on DeviantArt: DOINK-ffex!

It's brand new and just getting started, but we've already begun trying to gather up any DOINK! art that's been posted to DeviantArt. If you know of any art that should be on in our collections, feel free to drop a line in the comments, here or over at DA!

We hope the group will help spread the word about DOINK!, and we'll be updating it with news and fanworks.

Please do tell your artist friends about the DA group if you're so inclined, as we're always looking to have more participants — and if you have artist friends that aren't at DA, you can also point them right here! And speaking of spreading the word...

Advertising

As we hit the home stretch before sign-ups, we're definitely looking to get the word out about the exchange. This year we've tried to make it a little easier for you to tell your friends so you can convince them to create with us, because you know whatever they make will be awesome. We've whipped up some banners for you to use if you would like a quick and easy way to help us get the word out. More awesome people = more awesome fanwork = more awesome time!

Hello and welcome to the preparations for DOINK! 2011. We hope everyone is just as excited as we are to get started!

This will be our fourth round, and with experience have come a few changes! Our Walkthrough has been updated with lots of relevant information about our new processes, dates for the 2011 round, and other useful information. We ask that anyone interested in DOINK! 2011 — planning to participate, or just thinking about it — please stop by and take a look, just to be familiar with how we operate. Some specific items we would like to highlight:
