FINAL FANTASY KISS BATTLE 2016

Come play! Send all your friends! :)

Yes, it's happening! Right here and right now! :D

We are still considering our availability and options for running a full exchange sometime this year, and we'll keep you posted on any future developments. In the meantime, we wanted to bring back the Kiss Battle: it's a tradition, and really fun!

Since we aren't doing the Chocobo Races this year, there are no teams and no points. However, we will give a shout-out to the top five contributors, with special recognition to the person who creates kisses for the most canons. :)

Final Fantasy Kiss Battle 2016

RULES
  • All prompts will be organized by fandom, using Master Links. When leaving prompts, please put it under the right canon! If in a compilation canon, please include the important details!

  • To leave a prompt: leave one prompt per comment, with FANDOM: CHARACTERS/RELATIONSHIP in the subject line and your prompt in the body.

  • To leave a fill: reply to the comment in question. Please use the subject line of your comment to label your work: TITLE (if relevant), FANDOM, CHARACTERS/RELATIONSHIP, RATING (ANY KINKS, WARNINGS, FLAGS).

  • There should be kissing! All kinds of kisses are welcome: gen, shippy, smutty, chaste, familial, friendly, angry, happy! We’re pretty open to anything you want to call kissing. We are fans of all of it.

  • Fanart, fanfiction, drabbles, doodles, live action movies -- whatever you want to supply, we’d like to have it.

  • Be kind to others regarding character or ship choices and prompts. This should be fun for everyone!

  • Prompt early, prompt often, and leave as many as you want.

  • Prompts can be filled multiple times!

  • To leave a blitzkrieg kiss: If you have something but no one has prompted it yet, blitzkiss away! Just reply to the comment for your fandom, and make sure you use the subject line to label your work.

  • Be sure to check back often -- new kissing action could be showing up everywhere!

  • Spread the word! Tell your friends!

FINAL FANTASY KISS BATTLE 2016

We will be running the Kiss Battle on Dreamwidth only. There are two main reasons for this: 1) Dreamwidth’s comment limit is huge, allowing for longer kissing masterpieces; and 2) Dreamwidth still supports subject lines for comments, which are vital to a meme like the Kiss Battle. However, the Battle is open to everyone. Feel free to participate with your Dreamwidth (account creation is invite-free right now~!), your Livejournal or other OpenID account (see here if you want to set up an OpenID), or anonymously.

Have fun! Get smoochin'!

Hello, DOINK! fans and followers!

In 2015, there will be no formal round of DOINK!

After discussing our schedules, other obligations and current state of preparedness, the moderator team has decided to take 2015 off to improve our infrastructure. We're aiming to improve our sign up code, work on our matching macro to keep our focus on providing everyone good prompts they'll be excited to create for, and create some new tools to help us run things on the back end that will make the exchange experience smoother and faster for everyone.

However, later in the year we may launch some informal prompting/writing events of some kind, similar to our Kiss Battle. Nothing's been decided yet, but as soon as we know we'll announce events here and on our Tumblr. If you have particular types of prompt events you like, do let us know!

If you're looking for an exchange to dive into this year, [community profile] press_start_comm is a video game exchange and they open nominations on June 20th. :D If there are other active Final Fantasy or video game writing challenges happening this year, feel free to drop the links in the comments, as well. :)

Thank everyone so much for being patient as we clean up behind the scenes. We hope to see everyone in 2016 for the February Kiss Battle. :)

As the last few chocobos cross the finish line, we bring the 2014 races to a close! The Kiss Battle made for yet another exciting final lap, and we once again congratulate everyone involved. Everyone who left prompts, created new works, and left feedback for others deserves a round of applause. Thanks for making it another great year for the Chocobo Races!

If you’ve been waiting till the end to watch the action with no commercial breaks, now’s a great time to take a look through the 36 works in the 2014 Chocobo Down AO3 collection, or peruse the 204 comments on the 2015 Kiss Battle (25 of which are fills). Lots of awesome Final Fantasy love to be found!

Now without further ado, onto the results...!

2014 Chocobo Races Winner: Team Cactuar

The Cactuars proved to be as swift as their namesake, bursting out of the starting gate back in September and holding the lead all throughout the year! They contributed 55 points’ worth of kisses during February, putting their final total at an impressive 415 points. Excellent work, Cactuars!

The Tonberries put up a massively good fight during the Kiss Battle as well, securing 40 kissy points for themselves. They finished the races with 95 points total, and the overall race was so much the better for it!

And of course, we can’t forget the independent players who dropped in for the Kiss Battle again this year -- whether you played on a team or by your own rules, we thank you all for your participation!

So again, congratulations to Team Cactuar! Enjoy that victory fanfare!

Upcoming Events
The official 2015 round of DOINK! Final Fantasy Exchange will begin in a few months -- stay tuned for more information, and as always, help us spread the word!

DOINK! CHOCOBO RACES 2014
FINAL BOSS: 2015 KISS BATTLE

That's right! It's February, and it's time for the Final Fantasy Kiss Battle. As in previous rounds, we'll be using Kiss Battle fills as February's way to earn extra points.

Administrative Bits
  • Anyone is welcome to participate in the FF Kiss Battle - you don’t have to be a DOINK participant, nor do you have to be a Chocobo Racer. However! If you would like your fills to earn kissy points, and you haven't already chosen a team, you can sign up here! It's still anyone's game, and it's not too late to join in.
  • Confused? Need a refresher on the rules? Wondering how to post? Get more information about the Chocobo Races here.
  • You can browse the Chocobo Down list at any time!

If you’re a Chocobo Racer: we will be giving points for fills, but not prompts. Each fill will be worth 5 points for your team.

Feel free to participate in whatever way you'd like - although in order to earn points for your team, you need to be logged in.

The Kiss Battle Master Post will be up in just a few days! IT'S THE FINAL DUNGEON. BE SURE TO SAVE YOUR GAME.

In first place:

Team Cactuar, with 360 points total (50 points this round)

In second place:

Team Tonberry, with 55 points total (0 points this round)

It’s now February, and you know what that means -- the KISS BATTLE will be opening in a few days! Stay tuned for more information later this week!

DOINK! Chocobo Races 2014
December/January - Small Fandoms & Final Fantasy Creatures!

Administrative Bits
  • If you haven't yet chosen your team, make sure you sign up here on the 2014 roster if you want your work to count for points!
  • Confused? Need a refresher on the rules? Wondering how to post? Get more information about the Chocobo Races here.
  • You can browse and fill prompts from the Chocobo Down list at any time!

For the next two months, you are encouraged to:
  • Create fanwork for canons within the series that have smaller fandoms!
  • Create fanwork that centers around any of the unique creatures of the Final Fantasy series!
    • This includes any summons, monsters, animal companions, and non-hume/human races. You could even interpret the theme to include old-school status effects that affect humanoid appearance, like Toad and Imp!
    • As a guideline, if you would like to use this theme to feature main cast members who are generally treated as "characters" over "creatures" (such as Fran or Kimahri), consider making the focus of your work something to do with their background or experience as non-human.
  • It's fine to choose one theme or the other — there's no requirement to combine them, but you can if you want!

If you have any questions, please leave them on this post!

How will the scoring go?
  • Any work that prominently features any Final Fantasy Creatures will receive 10 points.
  • Any work submitted for Small Fandoms - FFI, FFII, FFIII, FFIV (and TAY), FFV and Legend of the Crystals, FFVI, FFIX, FFXI, VS, all Tactics games, FFXIV, FF: TSW, FFU, FF: MQ, FF: 4 Heroes, all Crystal Chronicles games - will be worth 10 points each.
  • Any work that fulfills both themes at once - that is, Creatures from a Small Fandom! - will receive 15 points.
  • Any work that doesn't fit either the Small Fandoms or Final Fantasy Creatures themes, but is submitted in December or January, will still receive 5 points.
  • Don't forget we also now award bonus points for works that go above and beyond the call of duty! The following applies to ALL works, whether they fit the theme or not:
    • +5 points for every 5000 words of a single fic
    • +5 points for extensive coloring or shading in a picture
    • +5 points for complexity within a single picture; i.e. backgrounds or multiple characters
    • +5 points for multi-paneled comics
  • Remember that you have to be signed up for a team before you post your work in order to get points.

What prompts are eligible for this month?

Some reminders for this round:
  • Please include the prompt you are filling somewhere when you post your work!
  • Since the mods can't guarantee we have the time to look at every work ourselves, please make sure you label your work appropriately, so that we know who gets bonus points and who doesn't!

What if there isn't anything in the Chocobo Down Database that I want to create for? What if I want to ask for something else?

You can leave any prompts that fit one or both of the current themes in the comments to this post! You don’t have to be on a team to leave a prompt, but you do have to sign up if you want to receive points for filling one.

To leave a new prompt:
  • Please put the most important relevant information in the subject of the comment, such as canon, character/ship, and/or creature. FFIV TAY: Palom/Ursula, or FFV: Faris & Syldra, or FFXII: Rogue Tomato are examples.
  • Leave the details of your prompt in the comment. "Anything goes" usually isn't as helpful as you'd think - even if it's true! - so please try to add some optional details or ideas for people who might want a pointer.
  • You can leave as many prompts as you wish, although we would ask you to stick to 5 prompts to keep things manageable. If you manage to fill someone's Small Fandoms or Final Fantasy Creatures wish, however, feel free to come leave as many prompts as you want!

Have fun, good luck, and prompt away!

Team Cactuar, with 310 points total (95 points this round)

Howdy, chocobo racers! Just a quick reminder that the round for Ladies and Fandom Tropes is still open! We've had some excellent submissions so far - keep 'em coming! And if you're too busy with NaNoWriMo now to create something, why not leave a prompt or two for someone else? Or... you could whip out a little sketch or 500-word fic to take a break from NaNo... right! ;)

Happy racing, everyone! (And good luck to those participating in NaNoWriMo!)

DOINK! Chocobo Races 2014
October/November - Ladies & Fandom Tropes!

  • Create fanwork about your favorite female characters!
  • Create fanwork that has a format or theme in line with any common fandom tropes.
    • Need some guidelines on tropes? [community profile] trope_bingo has a great (but non-exhaustive!) list here, and poking around TV Tropes is another helpful resource.
  • It's fine to choose one theme or the other — there's no requirement to combine them, but you can if you want!

If you have any questions, please leave them on this post! We understand that "Fandom Tropes" as a theme is extremely open-ended, but we hoped it’d be a fun way to encourage everyone to have new ways of thinking about their favorite canons and characters. We also would like to stress that this isn’t meant to be a fanfic-only theme! There are many tropes that can be applied to art and other media as well, so we hope everyone can find some inspiration within the theme.

How will the scoring go?
  • Any work that fits either theme of Ladies or Fandom Tropes will receive 10 points.
  • Any work that fits both themes will receive 15 points.
  • Any work that doesn't fit either the Ladies or Fandom Tropes themes, but is submitted in October or November, will still receive 5 points.
  • Don't forget we also now award bonus points for works that go above and beyond the call of duty! The following applies to ALL works, whether they fit the theme or not:
    • +5 points for every 5000 words of a single fic

    • +5 points for complexity within a single picture; i.e. backgrounds or multiple characters
    • +5 points for multi-paneled comics

  • Remember that you have to be signed up for a team before you post your work in order to get points!

What prompts are eligible for this month?

Some reminders for this round:
  • Please include the prompt you are filling somewhere when you post your work!
  • **New for this year!** To help ensure the mods award you all the points you deserve, please also identify the bonus theme(s) you are working with in your post. If you are doing the Fandom Tropes theme specifically, please also include the name of the trope(s) you are using.
  • Content warnings/guidelines are always appreciated and recommended as well.

  • Please put the most important relevant information in the subject of the comment, such as canon, character/ship, and/or trope. FFT: Agrias/Ovelia, or FFVIII: Quistis & Rinoa, or FFVII OGC: Turks, Genderswap are examples.
If you manage to fill someone's Ladies or Fandom Tropes wish, however, feel free to come leave as many prompts as you want!

DOINK! Chocobo Races 2014
September Theme: Free-For-All!

Welcome to the 2014 Chocobo Races! Last year in the battle of the Espers/Eidolons/Aeons/GFs/Summons… we could go on… Team Shiva iced the competition! With a clean slate and only two teams fighting for the championship title this year, it’s truly anyone’s game! Will Team Cactuar blind us all with 1000 Fics? Will Team Tonberry step out of the shadows wielding a fine-tipped paintbrush? Only time (and your own enthusiasm!) will tell!

Let the races begin!

Administrative Bits
  • If you haven't yet chosen your team, make sure you sign up here if you want your work to count for points!
  • Confused? Need a refresher on the rules? Wondering how to post? Get more information about the Chocobo Races here.
  • You can browse the Chocobo Down list at any time!

How will the scoring go?
  • Any work posted this month will receive 10 points. Please be sure to follow our minimum quality guidelines outlined in the introduction to Chocobo Races - fics should be at least 500 words, and please use your best judgement for art and other types of media by putting in as much effort as you would for a ~500 word fic, if that makes sense :)
  • Don’t forget we also now award bonus points for works that go above and beyond the call of duty!
    • +5 points for every 5000 words of a single fic
    • +5 points for extensive coloring or shading in a picture
    • +5 points for complexity within a single picture; i.e. backgrounds or multiple characters
    • +5 points for multi-paneled comics
  • Remember that you have to be signed up for a team before you post your work in order to get points!

What prompts are eligible for this month?

Some reminders for this round:
  • Please include the prompt you are filling somewhere when you post your work!

If you have a great idea that you’d love to see filled, that isn’t covered by anything already in the Chocobo Down Database, you are welcome to post your prompts in the comments of this post! Team players will earn points on any works they create to fill these new prompts, too.

To leave a prompt:
  • Please put the canon and character(s) in the subject of the comment. FFVI: Edgar & Sabin, or FFVII (OGC): Cid, or FFVIII: Rinoa/Quistis are examples.
  • Leave the details of your prompt in the comment. "Anything goes" usually isn't as helpful as you'd think — even if it's true! — so please try to add some optional details or ideas for people who might want a pointer. Since this is Free-For-All month, it's a chance to get adventurous, so let your imaginations fly!
  • You can leave as many prompts as you wish, although we would ask you to stick to 5 prompts to keep things manageable. If you do also fill a prompt or two this month, however, we invite you to come back and leave even more prompts of your own!

Ready, Set, Go! The September Chocobo Races are open!

[personal profile] ffexchange_mod
We're happy to announce that the 2014 round of Chocobo Races is open for team registration!

Not sure what Chocobo Races is? You can look here for an in-depth explanation. In a kupo-nutshell: Sign up for a team; fill prompts and get points for your team; repeat monthly with special bonus themes for extra points; the highest-scoring team next March wins the round!

We're going old-school this year and switching back to our two-team setup:

At the bottom of this entry are two comments - one for each team. To officially sign up for the Chocobo Races, reply to the comment for the team you want to join. It's okay if you don't have a Dreamwidth! You can comment using your Livejournal, using an OpenID, or simply use an anonymous comment to leave us your information. It's just a lot easier for the mod team to only have to look in one place to get our current team rosters.

When you comment to sign up, please leave the following info in your comment so that we can recognize your work and give it points!

A couple other notes on Chocobo Races sign-ups:

  • Feel free to sign up for whatever team you want to be on! They're both open and you don't have to 'know' a mod to join!

  • That being said, please try your best to make sure teams are evenly distributed. We'd hate to have 1000 Needles Cactuars and only a handful of Tonberries, however formidable that handful may be.

  • Signing up doesn't commit you to anything, so if you're on the fence but interested, sign up anyway!

  • You can sign up at any point during the round! Just remember, we won't be able to count your work for points unless your sign-up is dated before your posted work. This is why, if you think there's any chance you'll want to participate later, it's a good idea to sign up now.

Get ready – the 2014 Chocobo Races are about to begin…!

TEAM CACTUAR

TEAM TONBERRY

Feel free to use the banners above to spread the word and enlist others for your team!

For those of you who are really excited, we've technically already spoiled the first round’s theme - during the month of September, you’ll earn bonus points for filling any prompts in our database. Start looking through and collecting ideas: we'll officially open the round in a few days!

The 2014 Chocobo Races are about to begin! Whether you’re a new player or a veteran of the Races, please read on as some of the details have changed.

WHAT ARE THE CHOCOBO RACES?
Every year, after DOINK! Final Fantasy Exchange, we release the master list of all the unfilled prompts we've collected over the years – also known as our Chocobo Down list. It also includes prompts from our beta volunteers (marked by a beta summon sprite), whose prompts are included in our database as a thanks for the time they donate to the exchange. Since participants submit 4 prompts and usually only get 1 gift – and DOINK! has 7 years under its belt – this is quite a list!

We like to use this list in the exchange off-season to encourage more fun fanworks. Here's what we do with our Chocobo Down database:
  • Anyone is welcome to fill any Chocobo Down prompt at any time. You don't have to be a past or present round participant; you don't have to be a Chocobo Racer; you don't even have to gift it to the person whose prompt it is if you don't want to. Simply fill the prompt and add it to our AO3 Collection for Chocobo Down.

  • If you've incurred a Doink penalty – defaulted after the no-penalty date, for example – you pay that penalty in pieces of Chocobo Down. The number of pieces you owe will have been communicated to you by the mod team (and if you're confused, please ask!). You'll need to fill your Chocobo Down Penalty before the start of the 2015 exchange, or you won't be able to play.

  • Chocobo Races is a team-based, points-based friendly competition – participants sign up for a team, and then fill prompts every month to win points. Some months have themes ("small fandoms", or "ladies!"), and filling prompts that fit the theme gives your team bonus points. Anyone is welcome to join the Races – you don't have to be an exchange participant to play, and you're welcome to play even if you owe us a Chocobo Down penalty. (Especially if you owe us a penalty – you can fill your requirement and get points!)

Last year we added 44 new works during the 2013 Chocobo Races and had an amazing turnout for the Kiss Battle. That's the target to beat this year!

Onto the details )

If you have any questions, please comment and we'll try to answer them as soon as possible! The sign up post will be available shortly!

A Multimedia Gift Exchange for All Final Fantasy Fandoms

Rules | FAQ | Schedule

After every round, we like to hear from our participants - how did we do? Did you have fun, did you enjoy your assignment, did you like your gift? We consider all the feedback we get and work through the off-season on the overarching question: how can we tweak our process next year to make things even more awesome?

We'd appreciate it if you took a couple minutes to tell us how you felt about DOINK! 2014. The poll is completely anonymous and confidential, so please be honest. However, remember also to be kind — we won't listen to feedback paired with anonymous abuse. The poll will be open for three weeks — we'll give you a reminder before we close it. Thanks!

Take the DOINK! 2014 Exit Poll

Thanks so much for an awesome round. We'll see you soon with information on the 2014 round of Chocobo Racing. Until then, check out all the amazing work in our DOINK! 2014 AO3 Collection.

AO3 also boasts kudos, which you can also choose to leave as well (but please, comment on your specific gift!). If you signed up for the exchange, you received something, even if you had to default, so please take the time to go by and say hello and thank your gifter. ♥

Remember that all creators are still anonymous, and will be revealed in 48 hours, on Saturday, May 26, 2014 at 23:00 UTC. Creators, while your work is anonymous, comments you post will also be listed anonymously, so you can reply to comments. But otherwise, mum's the word — please don't post about your work (including posting it to Tumblr) for just a little bit longer.

Have fun!
